Quote:Jaguars don't care about position it seems. They generally provide input and help gameplan with OC anyway. I think they want a good leader, with sound philosophy that meshes with Gus, ability to motivate, etc etc. Many OCs come from RB/WR/TE backgrounds.

Great post
Are we looking for an OC or are we looking for a staff?

Where exactly do most OCs come from?  I'm pretty sure they're not growing on trees.

I know.....the variety had me wondering if they have an idea of their man and are looking at position coaches to seek interest in said individual's staff......just a question that crossed my mind

The variety tells me they're keeping an open mind as they try to find the right guy for this team.  I don't think they're interviewing them for position coaches jobs, but in the end, that may wind up being where they land once the right guy is found to fill the OC position.
Please no.

Digging into the past for a guy who was demoted by JDR and left as a result. We certainly are going off the beaten path.

Maybe you should dig a little deeper. He got caught up in the shuffle on the offensive staff after Bill Musgrave was fired. Musgrave wanted to bring in his guy at the RB coaching spot (Kennedy Pola) and JDR liked him enough to move him to a different position to keep him on the staff. Under his watch Freddie T posted his career high in season rushing yardage as well as help lead the Jets to the 3rd best overall rushing offense with all types of problems at QB. He's moved up the ranks just like you would like to see any potential OC to have done. He's done well enough outside of Jax on other teams to be:

1) given an assistant HC title

2) been requested to interview for other OC positions

3) interviewed as a potential HC replacement to Rex

But you already knew this right?
Whoa, chill, I never said it was a bad thing, just that they've gone off the beaten path. I'm actually glad the team is casting such a wide net, just wasn't expecting to see Anthony Lynn's name come up.

Quote:I never heard of him, he is drawing interest from multiple teams so that's a good thing.

Browns, Bills, Jags? Some pursuit.
If we hire him I do hope he is the right man for the job.

I couldn't agree more.
On the micd up video, he said his guys have the mindset to "get better ever day."

gus will cream his pants when he hears that.

I predict he will be the guy that gets offered the job

Yeah. Why aren't teams without job openings interested in him.
Here we go. LOL.

This is a good example of what was wrong with Del Rio. In 2005 he replaced Musgrave with a buddy (Carl Smith), replaced Lynn with a buddy (Kennedy Pola). He had a staff of yes-men with USC ties. I would not read too much into Lynn being "demoted" JDR.
So HCs hire people they're familiar with?

Get the hell outta here...

Yikes. I hope not, but the above is kinda funny.

I wouldn't mind a guy like Lynn if the idea was to bring in multiple people - i.e. Lynn to oversee the running game improvement, and then another guy such as Trestman brought in to oversee the passing game improvement/ QB development. But I do not like the idea of only bringing in a guy with mainly a RB coach background, when the development of Bortles is in such a crucial stage. The Jags need to bring in a guy with a track record of quality QB development.

By the rhetoric in this thread it seems like Lynn will be the hire.

Trestman I thought was a slam dunk, poop in the diaper...I guess not.
