Can someone please tell me what the rank of Mike McCarthy's offense was when the Packers hired him as their HC? I forget.

I cant say if I like him or not.  Don't know anything about him

His offenses in New Orleans were pretty consistently in the middle third of the league during his tenure there.

It's all about the QB. Who was he working with in NO? He wasn't there when Brees was there.

Re: Roman:  I honestly don't know why they sign Kaepernick to a $17m/year contract and then change his game to take away his strength.  I know risk of injury is a concern but these coaches need to go with the talent that made the QBs playoff winners.

I would think that a guy we're looking at for a promotion have had, you know, constant successful stints directing an offense. In this case, even the track record of the position he coached for is below average at best.

The Chiefs WRs had 0 tds all season. Is that the WR coach's fault?

Second, I would like someone that does have a bit better record with QBs but if Kirby is who they believe is the man for the job then I hope they are right.

 

Third, I do like the idea of tricking eer getting him to come as RB coach and tell him he will be back up OC lol

Looks like Gus wants to emphasize the running game.  Kirby and Roman are run-first people, and I'm okay with that.  This offense doesn't need complexity, it needs to do things well, and a strong running game does a lot for an offense.  You can build a successful passing game off play-action.  You have better success in short yardage and goal line situations. You can grind out first downs, play in bad weather, compliment a good defense, keep a young QB upright, and help a young team build confidence by keeping the chains moving.

It's an Andy Dalton-type contract, they can cut him and won't be on the hook for a lot of guaranteed money.

How do you know Kirby is a run first coach?

Kirby may turn out to be an excellent OC; however, I would like the Jags to hire someone that has experience in the job. 

If you want someone who's available, you have to get someone who's been fired, or someone who's currently at a lower level.  

 

Anyone with experience has had successes and failures.  The more experience, the more successes and failures they've had.   If they haven't had successes and failures, they've never been a coach at all. 

Baltimore and Pittsburgh are great organizations and usually make great hires.

 

If Kirby indeed had an amazing interview with the Ravens, that could be a good sign.

Minnesota wouldn't let him leave for a lateral move. They don't even have to let him leave to become a coordinator, but it's pretty standard etiquette (unless you're the Bucs) to let a guy go if he's being promoted. Calling him "assistant coodinator" or "assistant head coach" probably wouldn't be enough to overcome the fact that he's still a running backs coach at his new team.

I think the real argument in Wilson's favor would be that he helped cobble together a solid running game with the dynamic duo of Jerick McKinnon and Mat Asiata. That's an impressive accomplishment by itself, made even more so by the Adrian Peterson situation casting a shadow over the running game.

He looks like he's done a good job and I'm not going to get ticked off if he gets hired, but I hope they do their do diligence here.
