I will say that the Bengals did a great job with Dalton's extension, though. After next year they can cut him with no guaranteed money left, that was very wisely structured. But you wanted to draft Bridgewater lol, that is the definition of QB purgatory.  Dalton has looked pretty good so far this year, but its Dalton.  I wonder if he can keep it up

this idea that "he'll never win it" is so stupid.  he's good enough to get the team to the playoffs where anything can happen.  He's just like Flacco and the countless other average QBs that somehow played well enough (when it mattered) to make a run in the post-season.

Dalton is more consistent in his decision making this year, it helps he has an elite offensive line, and elite WR, and elite TE, and two good running backs in the backfield, along with a stout defense.

Agree,, he is looking more solid this season.

I don't think it's a coincidence that last season was pretty much his worst. Both Marvin Jones and Tyler Eifert were out the whole year. Plus, Jeremy Hill really didn't get too involved until midway through the season.


Dalton has not been good in the Playoffs and Primetime. But, seriously I think it is more a coaching/preparation issue than QB. The Bengals had those same playoff/primetime struggles before Dalton even got there. Carson Palmer QB, Lewis Coach. They choked 2 home playoff games away,, and struggled on primetime.


Last year's playoff game at Indy, I don't lay too much on Dalton. Almost every key player on offense and defense was out with injury (even worse than what the Jags looked like early this season).


Offense injuries:

AJ Green

Marvin Jones

Tyler Eifert

Jermaine Gresham

Andre Smith (IIRC)


Defensive Injuries:

Vontaze Burfict

Ray Mauluga (knocked out early in game)

Geno Atkins (still not playing fully recovered)


Losing both starting LBs and not having Geno Atkins at full strength was a big blow.

Even still, they kept the game close until 4th qtr. Then it was just too much.

No doubt he has a lot of great players around him.

You should consider not making any more threads after this one.

Dalton is trying to prove me wrong (more like the supporting cast is trying to prove it's '85 Bears/'00 Ravens dominant so that it can win regardless of QB purgatory), but it's far too early to try to shove anything in anyone's face yet. September/October Andy Dalton has always been quite good.

 

The whole point is that his level of mediocre physical traits wither in the face of the cold weather, whipping winds, harder/heavier ball, often snow, etc. that teams almost always have to face for a playoff run, much less one that has to fight through the AFC North. We'll find out in two months if Dalton is able to overcome that for the first time in his career, but I suspect the answer will still be no.

Not nearly as laughable as thinking you have Teddy pegged 1/3 of the way into his 2nd year. Considering he has an extremely subpar oline and receiving corps paired with an all time great RB, they are doing exactly what you'd expect from any QB in the situation.

I rather make the playoffs every year and know you have a chance to win, then to suck every year and complain about the coach and gm, if it got to the point you can always draft a QB late 1st or other rounds, all great QBs are not always top picks, or you could even trade or sign one that slips to FA like Manning or Brees did, since your a playoff team they would want to come there.

Yup, maybe Cincy's patience pays off. But really, for the team they have now, the window is closing on alot of their roster. The defense in particular is getting a little "long in the tooth" (Adam Jones, Reggie Nelson, Leon Hall, Domata Peko, Geno Atkins, Carlos Dunlap, Ray Mauluga). All those guys are coming near or at the backside of their careers. Also on the offense,, Andrew Whitworth and Andre Smith are veterans that may be tough to keep for much longer.


The Bengals patience needs to payoff for them soon. Or else, alot of their young key offensive guys (Green, Dalton, Jones, Sanu, Eifert, Hill, Bernard) will have to "cash in" later with almost a completely different defensive roster and offensive tackles.


The time is now (this and next season) for them.

I had him pegged in college as did the other 31 teams that passed on him, he is no different.  Teams have figured out to stack the box because he cant beat them with his arm.  With 8 in the box I dont know how he only has 3 TDs 4 INTs on the season.  Min. def. has a chance though with their great run game and defense.  It is perfect for a game manager like Teddy and he is in the perfect situation.  If he can just learn not to throw more INTs than TDs he should be good.  Norv Turner knows how to use Teddy, he has surprised me this year.  I knew he would get the best out of him though.
