Quote:Not a bad place to go. They have a legitimate QB in place going forward and Mack on defense is going to be a stud.
Not to mention tons of Salary Cap Space.
The question is can the Raiders organization, the way ownership and the Front Office are currently constituted, make enough good decisions to give their next HC a realistic chance at turning around the team?

Former Jacksonville Jaguars coach and current Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio remains a "top candidate" for the head coaching vacancy in Oakland, according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports. He will interview with the Raiders on Sunday and could also meet with the Bears in the near future.

Regarding the CBS quote, if JDR doesn't meet with the Bears by tomorrow, he won't be able to meet with them until the Broncos playoff season is over.

True, true. The front office of the Raiders is always the unknown and unpredictable.

The Khalil Mack and Derek Carr draft selections likely saved GM Reggie McKenzie's job.

It seems like it.
Because of Reggie McKenzie's spotty at best track record with personnel decisions and the Dennis Allen hire which didn't work out, it could be difficult for the Raiders to get a good HC candidate if McKenzie is kept. If the Raiders have another 4-12 type of season, Mark Davis might decide to fire McKenzie. His replacement might want to hire a different HC for 2016. Derek Carr is going to need stability at some point in the next couple of years. It's far from certain Carr is going to have stability.

Mark Davis said Reggie McKenzie will play a major role in choosing the next head coach. Translation: McKenzie is not going anywhere.

Cause I'm sure they'd give him a heads up if he was going next year

I think Del Rio is a better HC than some people give him credit for. He'll be a HC somewhere again.

His success depends on the players. He would win more games in Chicago than Oakland.

Maybe JDR would be the one HC that would keep Mel Tucker.
Regardless, the Bears certainly need much more talent on Defense in order to have sustained success. Obviously, I hope they aren't successful.

The best thing I can say about Del Rio is his teams were never intimidated by the best teams. He led his team into Green Bay, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, New York and beat some pretty good teams. Usually with an inferior roster. But on the flip side, his team lost too many games where they were playing lesser teams and had alot at stake. Houston game at home in 2004 is the prime example. Also at Tennessee in 2006 and Washington at home in 2010. Four times his team went into the final month of the season with a chance to make the playoffs.and just fell apart. And while his Jaguars usually went toe to toe with Peyton and the Colts, he struggled against some really mediocre Houston teams.

Just being a playoff contender in December would be a huge improvement in Oakland. If he gets the Raiders job and they do the same thing, everybody will say he is a great coach because that is much better than they were the last decade.

Seth Payne and Gary Walker played us hard every game.

Amazing that JDR is already being given a 2nd chance at a HC job

He probably would hire Mike Smith to coach his defense.

Smith should have plenty of options. A reunion with JDR is possible if he gets the Oakland job. I also think replacing him in Denver could be.

He better teach Janakowski how to handle an axe first.

I may be one of the minority here but I think Del rio was a good HC. He just suffered so much from piss poor drafting thanks to both Shack and Smith. I mean, It was legendary bad. So bad, I don't think any head coach could have survived it. We could've won a superbowl with Jack Del rio (Couple plays reversed in our favor in that 08 patriots game and we might've. Easily woulda beat Indy and Chicago)
