Quote:We needed a DT more than a QB. Our plan had always been to concentrate on defense in the 2016 draft.
Before the draft we had
Malik, Roy, Abry, Marks, and Michael Bennett along with guys who were at end but could play tackle like odrick and alualu. 7 DTs. Backup qb is more important than bench defensive tackle.
Look, I am of the opinion that Dak isn't that good. He played in a high percentage offense with a fantastic running game, great o line, and pretty good wide receivers. He was throwing balls at Dez's knees and the Packers' secondary was so bad that nobody was even around him.
There is no way he even remotely approaches success here.

Argh! I kept trying to edit that post only to see the screen freeze before clicking Submit.
However, you are wrong. Odrick and Alualu played DE in 2016. Also, I meant to say
starting QB.

Dak is played extremely good this past year.
Quote:Oh OK. I didn't get the relevance. I was like ....I'd the jags had him the highest, why didn't we take him?
Apparently we forced dallas' hand.
Possibly that much more after the Raiders drafted Connor Cook, who the Cowboys reportedly rated higher than Dak Prescott. Yet, amazingly even after Cook went, the Cowboys took DE Charles Tapper. They were very fortunate that Prescott lasted to their 4th Round Compensatory pick.

I actually agree with you.
You can put my grandmother behind that phenomenal offensive line, outstanding running game, and explosive group of wide receivers - and she could keep that offense running.
They are truly stacked in almost every offensive position, heck even tight end too...

The Cowboys only wanted Connor Cook because the Broncos knew they wanted Paxton Lynch and traded up to snag him. Maybe the Raiders traded up for the same reason?

His ceiling is Andy Dalton. He is a game manager with a big arm. He didn't win games for them--they hardly ever trailed due to controlling the clock and Zeke.
The Cowboys also didn't beat many teams with a winning record this season if I remember correctly.
If the Cowboys ever find themselves in a situation where they have to rely on him to win consistently, they'll be disappointed.
There's nothing wrong with Andy Dalton as a franchise QB.

Bingo, it's another bad mark against David Caldwell, who despite being popular amongst Jags fans has been one of the worst GM's (in terms of roster construction) in football. I think he's well respected in terms of talent evaluation, but he's failed to build a competent football team. This is the reason he was neutered by Shad, thank goodness Tom Coughlin now has the final say on EVERYTHING as we shouldn't see any cronyism moving forward. It's possible the Jags had a 2nd rd grade on Dak, but David Caldwell is now striking me as a guy that wouldn't have brought in legitimate competition for "his guy" Blake Bortles.
So daks rookie season he didnt face as much difficulty so hell never be able to do it in his whole career? Well im glad a year is enough time to decide who someone is. Dak having good talent around him shouldnt stop you from seeing his accuracy or poise. Green bay got after him during that playoff game and he maneuvered in the pocket and made plays. The first dez touchdown he threw was a drop in the bucket with a cornerback right behind him. He played his [BLEEP] off and brought his team back from down 20. But yeah lets just throw the game manager tag around like we always do with quarterbacks we're incapable of evaluating.
Dak is their franchise QB moving forward, and he should be.
If Day and Prescott were being drafted this year, I'd hope Dave would be selecting Prescott instead.
I was hoping for a fourth round QB last year regardless (before Bortles tanked this season.) You don't stop drafting QBs to develop even if you've got Brady.

Yep. Another QB to develop and would allow us to get chads contract off the books as well.
Dangit, Dak would have led the Jags to the Playoffs if the Jags drafted him before the Cowboys.

Be assured that you're the only one who feels this way. Jokes don't make truth.

OK OK OK. calm down with the fast evaluations. The man looked OK AT BEST with his accuracy. His poise was excellent but balls were thrown all over the place. If these same fans bash bortles for inaccuracy then HOW can you NOT see INACCURATE passes from DAK. Its the only game on TV and your saying he looked good. That was an embarrassment and the play to DEZ had the CB beat by at least 5 steps

Not sure who you were watching, but it certainly wasn't Dak Prescott...
Prescott played well. The kid couldn't help who drafted him. He landed in a great spot for a young QB to develop. Dak will only get better as he gets more time in.

Using that logic, Matt Ryan is not very good either because a pair of RBs take a lot of pressure off his right arm.
I hate the Cowboys more than anyone else on this forum, but I know better than to say just because they have the best RB outside of Pittsburgh their QB is just a "game manager."
