Of course it all depends upon who becomes available in Free Agency, but if Brian Bulaga of Green Bay becomes available to me he should be the No. 1 target to overpay to secure his signature. I am thinking something on the order of 7 to 8 Mil per season should lock down the contract.

I would not mind perhaps overpaying for DeMarco Murray to the tune of 4.5 to 5 Mil per season to get that Franchise RB.
I would us to give JPP a "prove it" deal like Sen'Derrick Marks had recieved when we signed him. I think JPP could thrive in the LEO position and revive his career like Marks did. Also we should sign Baluga for RT he's good. Really the only good players on our O-line is Brandon Linder and Luke Bowanko. We need to give Bortles a big Tight End that can be his security blanket, Marcedes Lewis is awful and should be cut this off season. Thomas would give Bortles and security blanket and a weapon.

Murray will get more than 8 mil per year elsewhere.

I would be happy with Bulaga.  We HAVE to get a proven veteran OL and a veteran WR that knows how to get open and can catch it when he does.

JPP is literally going to get 30-50x what Marks got.

And JPP's agent would laugh and never even mention that laughable exchange he had with you.

The same JPP who has 12.5 sacks this season and is considered an elite run stopper? Yeah, let me know how that goes.

I highly doubt that. 29 year old RB with an injury riddled past, and who ran the ball nearly 400 times in 2014. I don't think AP will get a contract making 8 per year at this point.
Quote:I don't know where you find the confidence. I look at the whole picture of what Dave has brought in and just do not see this great talent evaluator. He hit on marks. Who else?  Linder?Bowanko?Beadles? Robinson? T.Smth? Gratz? Bryant? This is the same man who also looked at hours of Jokel, and saw something that made him think he was a building block, an anchor for years at left tackle. Not just tape but in person at right tackle, and still was so confident in Luke he made him LT. When most fans could tell he couldn't handle RT. What kind of sense does that make, seriously? I understand missing on a pick, I cannot fathom having a player on the team that they watched hours and hours of play from and said "yeah he gets abused at RT, lets put him at LT and get rid of Eugene.". THAT IS MIND BOGGLING BAD DECISION MAKING.  Unless the player makes a 180 degree turn he is a bust at his spot in the draft. Major swing and miss.Made worse by as I said not recognizing how bad even when he was on the Jaguars.

This is just like "rating the rookies" thread, evaluating the top rookies, and I find myself saying, "who was good?". really good, not rookie excuse good, but showed flashes of greatness. Who were the great FA pickups and practice squad guys he signed off other clubs? Is there a good Jaguar team out there hidden away near the river at Everbank? Because I see lots of Jokels and ZIggy Hoods and Gratz and I get that old Gene Smith Feeling again. I think we are so used to mediocre players the fans are like starving haitians thrown a MRE. It's all gourmet until the season starts and we face other teams and realize what is really on our dinner table. Heck, some don't see it even then.

What would be a good hit / miss ratio for a good GM? I'd argue that most GMs miss on most of what they do. It's when they draft or sign a handful of key players that contribute significantly when they finally turn the corner.

Telvin Smith, Marks, Linder, A. Robinson, D. McCray and Allen Hurns appear to be players that will immediately make a return on our investment. Then you have players like Bowanko, A. Jones, R. Davis, M. Lee, and D. Robinson all appear to have a specific and useful role going forward.

Bortles showed so much potential, and if he picks that back up, then I fully expect the Jaguars to show serious improvement. Sure, Caldwell may have picked up on some bums, Joeckel (maybe?), Beadles, Cyprien, and Gerhart are only a handful of players. I have faith in Caldwell.

Now that geno hayes is bound to leave i think at FA they should hire Justin Houston, i mean I´ve seen some people writing about JPP coming down to jax but the guy ryan davis wasn´t that bad this year, and I´m alsoo looking forward on hor Chris Smith developed, he played in just 7 games, starting none of them and got 3 sacks, with chris clemons as master he will improve his game and maybe become a solid starter, plus Justin Houston comes from his best season an 3° season in a row having 10+ sacks, it would make our D a huge beast in QB pressure, i think more than JPP; I´ve also like seeing Bryan Bulaga being signed it would help in the weakest department, with a good OL the running and passing game must improve, they can also sing a TE buen it can also be filled in the draft with the 2° round pick hoping Maxx Williams comes to the NFL or another TE, honestly Maxx is the one I´ve been looking forward in the draft but there should be another TW worth of the 2° round pick.

Justin Houston would be ridiculous on this defense... He's from Georgia so maybe the southern connection/family thing could come into play.

I'd like to see us give Aaron Rodgers a "Stephen Morris" type contract just to see if he could make anything of his career in Jacksonville.

I have this...sneaky feeling that we'll be disappointed. $61M is a TON of space to spend. Even if we go by Dave's estimate of 95% and going conservative to 92%, that's still approx $50M that we have to spend this year. My guess is we touch about at most $30M in free agency. Rest will be spent on draft class + extensions/resignings before the year is done.
Is that $61 mil after Lewis and Poz cap hits? I would imagine it is.

He's going to get franchised by Kansas City, but he'd somehow hit free agency you give him whatever he wants.
