Quote:How many qualified OCs would really want to come in to this situation? Get real. Let's see. My first job is to make the offense simple enough for my QB to understand it. Got it.
Go to a team with 3 promising rookie wrs, Denard Robinson to play with, maybe a chance to utilize Blackmon, and a young QB who has "future franchise QB, please coach me" written all over him. Yeah that's a terrible situation.
Fisch was lost. Everytime we had a productive play they would show him giving the biggest fist pump of life like we won the game. Dude had to go. Didn't think they would have the balls to start an offense from scratch but I'm happy they did. Get Trestman in here. Now.

1. No state income tax for FL
2. Patient Owner/GM
3. If successful, Would get all credit for offense resurgence
Quote:If some of the reports are true about the offense not liking fisch and he beliteling Blake at practice, i think that might have pushed Gus to fire him. Gus being a players coach and having everything positive yet your OC is berating your young Franchise QB. Im quite sure GUs couldnt fire him fast enough.

Quote:Im still wondering why Fisch couldn't alter his gameplan to a vertical passing game from a horizontal one but give Bradley credit for having the stones to do what was needed. I do remember an old favorite poster of ours saying Bradley could be undone by his choices in coordinator's. I think he was right but Bradley put pride aside and could change his fate.
Marc Trestman favors downfield action and I'm sure Bortles will be thrilled to start throwing downfield again.
I'm glad he made the move now but it should have been made last off season when it was clear the Fisch is not a good NFL OC. He made the right move finally but it's a year after when it should have been made.
In the end, the offense is unfortunately behind on their development timetable of where they could have been with a better OC.
Quote:really, 70 sacks? Good God...
I think the final official number was 71. Not a league record but not that far off. Definitely a Jag's record.
Quote:Don't know how many times you have to be told that coordinators are the coach's decision. But whatever. Notice how Caldwell didn't say anything about Jedd being fired. Gus dropped that bomb.
So it WAS Gus who dropped the "F" bomb?
Good job Gus, it was necessary, even though I know it was hard for you to do.
It just had to be done.
Fisch offense was inept. Sure he was troubled with youth and lack of talent but somebody has to be the fall guy. Time to go in another direction. His play calling was horrendous. I think he may have handcuffed blake as well with the audible situation.
Blake should also get credit because he was sacked 55 times and kept getting up. There were times that free runners really layed into him. Blaine would of curled up a long time ago.

I hope Gus gets the OC choice right this time because it's really easy to like the guy and want him to succeed.
He needs someone that can run the offense and game plan. The coaching, particularly during the game, was horrid. The offense seemed to always be flat. I don't even know how that's possible.
I was of the opinion that Fisch couldn't be judged with a rookie-heavy offense. Then Fisch blatantly lost faith Bortles after the INT at Indy and stopped calling downfield passes. That's when I knew Fisch had to go; you can't do that to your starting QB.
My thought on Bradley's decision is that it's more about opening up a job for his good buddy Trestman, and that Fisch would still be here if the Bears had kept Trestman.
Quote:This is exactly why Trestman is the OC this city deserves. Bradley needs a guy that he can trust to take on the entire offense without any hand holding, checks, or 2nd guesses. Trestman is that guy.
I kind of have to agree with you, not going to lie, he took cutler out and claussen did look better than cutler. So if he can get production out of a QB like claussen think what he'd be able to do with Bortles who has a higher ceiling.
The only thing I'm worried about is Allen Hurns. He knew Fisch's offense which helped him and I'm hoping he can pick up a new offense quickly or we might see his production drop.
I think Fisch has some talent and creativity, but this was not the right situation for him. He could probably do great things if he had all of the toys and time to install all of the wrinkles he would like, but I think he didn't do a good job of adjusting the plays to the inexperience on the offense. I also agree that after the midway point it looked like he totally shut Bortles down. While the line has something to do with it, Bortles was good on rollouts, and could have taken some shots while moving. I give credit to Bradley for making the move.

Allen Hurns will either Rise or Fall. With Caldwell probably adding a Veteran WR, It is of little consequence what happens with Hurns. Best case scenario:
Lee > Robinson > Vet > Blackmon > Hurns - with Sanders released.

I don't think the lack of downfield passing was because Fisch lost faith in Blake. I think he more likely lost faith in his offensive line's ability to protect long enough to throw down field, and he also may have lost faith in his WRs' ability to run the right routes.
As far as why Gus fired Fisch, it was apparently because of some things we could not have known about. I watched the entire press conference, and from what Bradley said, Fisch wanted to throw the entire playbook at Blake and wait for this big breakthrough of understanding, while Bradley wanted to give it to him in smaller doses, and let him be thoroughly familiar with what he was given before he was given more. That was one example Bradley gave, calling it a "philosophical difference." All of which tells me, Bradley didn't think Fisch was doing a good job of teaching.
As far as us not being able to judge Fisch because of the rookie heavy offense, I was of the same mind, but what we fans cannot see is the day to day interaction of the coaching staff and the players. We really can't see if the man in question is a good teacher or not, because we aren't at the practices and we aren't in the meetings.
Bradley was peppered with questions at his press conference as to why he fired Fisch, and he kept referring to the lack of execution and the lack of precision. He kept saying he wanted an offense that was precise, could execute, and played fast. What does that tell you? That's teaching. He didn't think Fisch was a good enough teacher. So I don't think it had as much to do with play calling as it had to do with the day to day business of teaching, which is most of the job anyway.

I think Hurns' production would've dropped anyway.

If Blackmon is 50% the player he was before, he's ten times better than the rest.
Quote:Lets fix the offense this offseason, we have some young talent to work with, that i think the right Cord could get the most out of. We fixed the Defense last season, lets now fix the Offense.
I disagree the Offense took the 1st overall pick two years in a row under GM Dave Caldwell, and if a shutdown cornerback is available (especially if they can trade down a few spots for another pick) than they should do it.
