There has been some interest shown in Denzel Perryman - ILB - Miami, but I want to focus on two lightweights who share the same first name Eric.

Namely...

Eric Kendricks - ILB - UCLA - 6'0" 230 Lbs

and

Eric Striker - OLB - Oklahoma - 6'0" 221 Lbs

Just as the Jags tapped a talent in Telvin Smith of FSU in last years draft class due to his lack of weight, so too might the Jags go back to the well and seek other lightweight LBers who can help this defense.

Eric Kendricks is a very active MLB who might do for the MLB position what Telvin Smith has done for the weakside LBer spot.

So too does Eric Striker offer a similar skillset to the Otto Lber spot despite his lack of sand in his pants.

What do you think of these two prospects and where would you consider taking them in this draft class?

Eric Kendricks is really good. It all depends on how things shake out but he looks like he will probably go late round 1/early round 2, right now. I prefer McKinney for MLB but don't know if that could happen.

Don't know much about striker.
I think both offer value in Rd 4 or later. Might consider as early as Rd 3, but not Rd 2.

you can find guys like kendricks in the later rounds. thats why i would prefer mckinney early on. there should be actually quite a few good linebacker prospects available when we pick.

id still prefer a trade down, take someone like mckinney or oakman, and then hopefully acquire at least a high second round pick as well that can be used on someone like prewitt or the other of oakman or mckinney. taking an OL in the first 2 rounds wouldnt be a terrible idea either. i guess we need to really see what happens in free agency first.
I get the love for McKinney, but there is some talk that McKinney is a 2 down LBer.

Thus I was looking at another option like Eric Kendricks who while small is a sideline to sideline type of MLB.

Remember Ray Lewis was also a lightweight (less than 220 lbs) when he was drafted.

I am thinking that Kendricks could be targeted for a Rd 3 selection.

I think the Senior Bowl will give us more insight into Kendricks as a MLB prospect.

Eric Striker could be another Telvin Smith type player.

Gus has a strange looking defense by NFL standards, so I am attempting to think outside the box.

If you look at Bobby Wagner at Seattle, then you look at Denzel Perryman of Miami, you see similarities.

If the Jags sign an ORT in Free Agency then I think Perryman may be the target for the Rd 2 pick.

I want Kendricks. He can play a season as OLB, with Poz in the middle and then slide over as a replacement.

i like kendricks, but he is going to be overdrafted. i like perryman better.
I think this team is severely lacking in Eric's so any position we can add an Eric is a plus, they tend to be the best at what they do  :whistling:

Kendricks is probably the best ILB in the draft. Striker is a 3-4 rush-backer only because he's not good at covering anybody.
I know little about either, but I know Kendricks has won a couple of awards, including one "good character" award. That might not sound like much, but I seem to remember DC saying the good character of Bortles and Joekel were important factors in their selection...

And while we are talking Erics, how about the two Colin's ? (Sorry, that should be Collins)

We've all spoken about Landon and his abilities, but Jalen Collins sounds an intriguing CB, because of his knack for picking off passes. (Senquez Golson also appears to have a talent for this). Or have we got enough talent at CB now ?
Gus has made it clear that he wants his MLB to be able to go sideline-to-sideline.  So Perryman may be the second round target.  It may also be O'Leary.  Improvement in the offense will, I think, be a priority.  If Dave and Gus think they can get a productive TE in FA or round 3 or 4, then Perryman would be a good choice and he would have a year to learn from Poz.

If you want to improve the offense, you aren't drafting O'Leary.
