So Michigan is offering Jim Harbaugh 8 million per year.
And Florida is giving McIlwain 3.5 million per year.

Hrm, I'm not really sure that proves your point.
Isnt the price predicated on who they are offering? McElwain doesnt have the resume Harbaugh does so by definition they could offer less. I'm sure if the schools had offered the other candidate the contracts would be flipped as well.
Besides, from a pure supply and demand point of view, I would think a top job could offer less for the same candidate because it's a more desirable location. A better comparison to see which job is better is to see how much it would take to pay Harbaugh to go to either school. If Harbaugh would coach at Florida for 6M but requires 8M for Michigan, then wouldnt Florida be the better job? At least in his eyes?
I'll believe it when I see Harbaugh take that job. I have my doubts that ever happens.

How does that show that UF isn't one of the top jobs in the country? I would say paying a coach to prove himself is a good way of doing things. UF did it with Meyer, and once he won a title, that pay jumped.

The funny part is that I was thinking about this before the season even started.. Harbaugh in Michigan is too much of a perfect fit. Story book like....

Harbaugh seems to be better suited for college. I think he should take this, it's once in a lifetime offer (price, situation, timing, etc.) As you said, it's a perfect fit.
The only wildcard here is ego, and he does seem like a man completely driven by ego. So, only the ego knows.

Actually the amount of money Michigan offered had nothing to do with how good the program is. The idea was probably entering a bidding war with the Raiders, who already said they want to interview Harbaugh. I am interested in seeing if the Raiders try to pay him more than $48 million or $8 million annually.
Recently I read on SI.com there was a buyout issue with McElwain's $7.5 mllion CSU contract that delayed his move to Gainesville. The date on that article was December 3, so I don't know how the story ended.

McElwain was hired by UF, he traveled to Gainesville and there was a press conference. I think he told the audience that he was a homeless dog that lived in the humane society.

Why would Jim Harbaugh be better suited for college football? He did not take Stanford to the national championship with Andrew Luck, but has a Super Bowl and two NFC championship games on his resume and was Coach of the Year his first season with the 49ers. What I see in him is a coach who can win a lot more games in the NFL than the NCAA.
That said, Harbaugh would not be as successful in Oakland right away because Mark Davis refuses to fire Reggie McKenzie. The only reason he is interested in the Raiders job is the location.
