Quote:The article I linked earlier said the most likely destination would be NY, Dallas, or remaining in Detroit.  I wouldn't want to get into a bidding war for his services, especially vs. the markets they're suggesting.  We've got way too many other areas needing attention to blow a chunk of our cap space on Suh.  We're fine at DT.

I agree on not getting into a bidding war for him because of the number of holes on this team is too many.

I think Chicago is going to try and sell the farm to get Suh, also.

There will be plenty of teams bidding for his services.  I don't expect the Jags to be one of them.  They're going to be making big moves in free agency, but Suh won't be one of their targets, IMO.
Quote:Suh said himself that he would let his agent pick his next team. That being said, I would be shocked if he didn't at least wait for FA to start before signing a deal to stay in Detroit. If Khan or Caldwell want Suh, they have the money to outbid everyone else. All they have to do is call Suh's agent during the legal tampering period and tell him we will pay more than anyone else.

I don't think it will be for 100 million, either. 6yr/85mil is my guess.

Gerald McCoy signed a 7 year/ $ 98 million contract with the Bucs,  with $ 51.5 million guaranteed earlier this season.   Considering Ndamukong Suh has been as durable as any player in the NFL through this point in time and McCoy has had numerous injuries,   I think Suh is going to get a noticeably better contract than McCoy if the Franchise Tag isn't used.

Exactly.  Suh is shooting for the $100 million mark.
Quote:Not too surprising. Seems to be a good fit in that one technique role. Wouldn't mind seeing Alan Ball get a reasonable extenstion for another year or two. Beyond that, nobody worth re-signing.
Why would we extend Ball?

Colvin has come on, and McCray is good and Gratz thats a solid young trio, we need to add maybe somebody much better if we could otherwise Ball is expendable
Quote:If Suh isn't asking for a ridiculous deal (a la Mario Williams), then I'm all for it.

If he is, then no thanks.

Breaking the bank on any free agent that isn't a QB seldom, if ever pays off.

I mean, how far has Detroit gone while he's been on the team?

In answer to your question,  much further than in the decade prior to when Ndamukong Suh wasn't with the Lions.

Through 14 games this season,  a strong case can be made that Suh has been the team's MVP.   Injuries have hit all 3 levels of the Lions Defense but the unit still ranks at or near the top of the NFL in the majority of key categories.    Suh has been a vital constant.

Having said this,  I'm sure the Jaguars brass already has a tentative plan in place how they want to proceed in Free Agency.   I think there's a better chance that the Jaguars spend heavily on an edge rusher/ LEO type of Defensive Lineman than an Interior D-Lineman.
Quote:Exactly.  Suh is shooting for the $100 million mark.

I truly believe Ndamukong Suh is going to get at least $ 110 million if he hits the open market.   It could even be noticeably higher than that.

I have been wrong many times before but my gut feeling is the Jaguars won't be the team that ends up with Suh.   While I believe Suh would sign with the Jaguars if the price was right,  my thought process is along the lines that I think the team brass will go in another direction.   With the Jaguars giving sizeable contracts to 2 or 3 Defensive players instead of breaking the bank for one.   Especially at a position the team already has a good to very good foundation.
I forgot about the asinine contract the bucs gave McCoy. You guys are probably right about Suh breaking 100 mil.

I am really hoping for a Devin McCourty with a RT and a LB thrown in,

Why not? Pretty sure you need more than three cornerbacks and Ball has played well in his time here.

You can never have enough CBs. Especially ones who have played well in your system. If we can sign him to a team friendly deal then I'm all for it.

I can envision the Jaguars going in the direction you are hoping for.   That much more if Seahawks OLB K.J. Wright hits the open market as an UFA.   If this happened,  that could easily set the stage for the Jaguars to draft a DE in Round 1.    A CB of note in Free Agency or the top 2 Rounds of the Draft also is something that I think more likely than not will happen.

I agree with you that you can't have enough CB's.   The same with pass rushers off the edge.   Much like with starting pitchers in baseball,  an NFL team needs plenty of depth at DE ( edge rushers ) and CB to get through the long grind of the season.  Injuries are inevitable.   In a division with Andrew Luck,  you absolutely need to rush the passer and have strong coverage.    Being able to match up in coverage against the Colts TE's is another key component of potential success for the Jaguars.

Pass rush is supposed to be the strong point in this draft, so that direction would certainly make sense for round one.
Ryan Davis is next

I think he's an ERFA. I hope he isn't expecting a big payday this offseason. Maybe next year.

If the Jaguars don't make a major DE move in Free Agency or in a trade before the draft,   I think at the very least the Jaguars will draft a DE in the top 37 picks.   If the team brass believes that DE is deep enough to get a 1st Round graded player in the top 37 picks,   it's realistically possible another position could be the target in the high part of Round 1.

yeah, forgot about that, that's good
I'm fine with not signing Suh as long as the jags spend the money for free agency this year to the cap or near it. The Dt I would go for is Damon big snacks Harrison

They have no choice but to spend to the cap next year.  They built up a war chest for a reason, and it wasn't to sign one big fish.
I like the move. Even if he's eventually passed on the depth chart, he's good depth.

I also agree that Ryan Davis should also be extended.

Branch too, even though that one might be not as popular.
