I wouldn't be upset if Dave went Cooper, got a pass rusher in the 2nd (fingers crossed for Eli Harold), and then double dipped into the state of Alabama for TJ Yeldon in the 3rd.
Quote:I ended up changing my mind a bit on this guy after watching him more. I'd have no issues at all with him being the pick.
Quote:Same here. Plus I think the team needs to give Bortles as many weapons as possible. It's smart because even if Bortles doesn't pan out, we can at least build up a really nice unit for another QB to step in and have success.
Quote:Surprised how much Fowler has fallen off. I still want him over Cooper / Williams. I really don't want offense as the first pick.
Telvin Smith is going to rip off heads this year, lets give the defense as much help as they can and worry about offense after the first round.
Quote:An offense that can stay on the field and put up points will help more than any one player on defense can at this point. Our offense was the youngest offense the NFL has seen in at least the last decade, and probably longer. They will improve simply by growing up and maturing.
If we were an average or above average offense last year, sure, go defense. There is that factor of diminishing returns at that point. But our offense was so bad that adding a stud offensive player is exponentially more beneficial to both sides of the ball.
Quote:Our offense was the youngest offense the NFL has seen in at least the last decade, and probably longer. They will improve simply by growing up and maturing. Our pass rush dont need Beasley, They could do just fine with a Fowler or a couple other pass rushers in this draft.
Our defense was dead last in pressures in the NFL, and is just another year older with many players past their prime. Our pass rush needs Beasley more than our passing game needs Cooper/White.

Quote:Yes, our offense will improve. Let's not fool ourselves into thinking that with just development that we have a high caliber offense. We still need weapons and pieces. You make a fair point, I just think there are very good options at WR later in the draft. It's very possible that someone like McBride/Hardy/Smelter/etc. is available on day 3 even. Not the same with pass rushers.
Our defense was probably last in pressures because we were playing from behind every game. Time and time again, good offenses make even average defenses look good when they get to rush the passer more than just a handful of times per game.
If our offense can force opposing offenses to pass more on early downs then you will see our defense improve by leaps and bounds simply by getting to rush on 3rd and longs and when playing with leads. It's hard to generate many pressures when teams are playing possession football against us most of every game.

Quote:I feel that if you look at the top wideouts in the league, you will see a much higher percentage were 1st rounders, and the top ones were top 10 picks or the top wr drafted. 15 of the top 30 receiving leaders were round 1 receivers.Again, this is a fair argument simply position vs position. I just grade Beasley as a better prospect overall. He could be an annual contender for league sack leader to me. I like Cooper a lot (I have said several times he is #2 on my wish list), but I look at him more like a Roddy White or Nuk Hopkins type WR. Better suited as a low end WR1 or very good WR2.
If you look at the players drafted in the 1st round to be 4-3 defensive end pass rushers over the last 5 or 6 years, you will see a very mixed bag with lots of busts. Only 6 of the top 30 pass rushers are 1st round defensive ends, the last one being in 2011.
It seems to me that a top 5 wide receiver is safer and has higher upside than a 4-3 defensive end.
