A few years ago when we scrapped the FB position we had our worst rushing year in years. The following year almost everyone on the board wanted us to draft a FB and take the best one available. Jalston Fowler was the guy everyone wanted, the best FB by far. We see what he has done to help Tenn. In 2013 Most wanted us to take Kyle when we cut Greg Jones, he went on to the Pro Bowl this year and one of the best blockers in the league. Most on this board want these 2 guys and Dave just abandoned the FB position and our run game I believe has felt the effects of it. We have to bring this position back and go get a guy in FA or draft Sam Rogers or Fresdie Stevenson
Yeah. The FB position took a step back in Jax when Bradley hired Fisch. Caldwell didn't "abandon the position" the coaches did.
Do people really believe that Caldwell drafts/acquires players according to something other the intended scheme of his coaches?
Unless you think Caldwell hired Bradley and required that Bradley hire an OC that doesn't use a FB -- you are pointing fingers in the wrong direction. Never mind the fact that Caldwell kept a different FB on the roster for two years after Jones' left. Will Ta'ufo'ou. It was the coach's decision to barely use him. Not Caldwell's.
That said - I'd like to see a FB be part of the new scheme, but I think a run game can still be great without one.
How many snaps did Dallas employ a FB in 2016?
I'd rather see the team employ an H-Back. That gives you the versatility of having a guy back there who can line up as a fullback or a tight end, and who can lead block well enough to do the job or swing out into the flat.
Or, I mean, you could always just put Alualu back there...
The fullback position really isn't important unless hack has a history of using it that i dont know of. What matters is good blocking and creative running schemes, not that they're mutually exclusive but i see fullback mentioned on here like everyday and its just not an absolute must.

its not a must but I would bet if you go back and look up all the best rushing teams in NFL history they all had a FB. That lead blocker makes a difference

Maybe it was just a fail on Caldwell's point to hire an OC that don't like to use a FB

He used one in Buffalo.
Yeah Marrone/Hackett used a FB in Buffalo. There are a few good FBs hitting FA (Juszczyk, DiMarco, and Devlin) but I'm not sure Dave would want to spend a lot of money on a FB.
Im sure there will be an UDFA out there that could work. If all else fails just sign a FB from Harvard or some Ivy League school, they always seem to work lol.
Another guy I'd like is Trey Burton as he can play FB, TE, WR, RB, and ST. Eagles fans love him but he has been stuck behind Ertz and Celek.
He is a RFA, however the Eagles cap is tight so they may only out the lowest tender on him which would allow other teams to negotiate without having to give up a draft pick.

Bradley hired the OCs. Not Caldwell. But keep trying to put it on Dave.
I'd like it if Dave took Stevenson in the 7th.

I doubt it

OK then, a fail by Dave letting Gus pick whoever he wants 2 different times at OC. One of the reasons we are in the spot we are in now. Dave was the GM, it should of all ran through him. Just makes it even worse if he was the GM and the OC is getting hired without him knowing or having any say of what type of offense the wanted to run. Thank God Khan hired Tom, Tom is smart enough to bring in his own guys.

Dude. Head coaches traditionally hire their coordinators, assistants and position coaches.
Not GMs.
This is standard procedure for most every team league-wide. You are reaching really hard to blame the wrong guy.
Dave messed up with Gus - but he didn't phase out the FB.

In history yeah sure, but that doesnt mean much in 2017. Looking at the best rushing offenses of the last two or three years would be more indicative of what's necessary

OK, would you rather use what "can" work in the run game or what's best for the run game?
I'm with ya.
Fullbacks are fun to watch and add a bit of extra variety to the run playbook.
Not necessary but I like having one.
I really hope Dave goes after this guy hard if he hits the market.

I wanted us to draft this guy when he came out. You could look at his tape and tell he was gonna be a beast at FB. He looked like Mike Alstott in his college tape. I wish I could go back to the posts I put up of this guy before the draft but it was on the old board. Dave took Ace Sanders instead and the same year Greg Jones left lol.

Alualu can be our Deion Sanders and play FB/DT/DE.

It also guarantees an extra defender in the box. Fb is not a running game savior, good linemen are.
I wonder what they will command on the open market. Right now the highest paid fullback is Ryan Hewitt at 2.5 mil. If we could get Juszczyk or DiMarco for ~3 mil I say go for it. If it's too much more then nah.
