My daughter's going on 2 months. Thinking this is the year to finally break it to her, she seems to be on to me and my lies...

I remember a bunch of older kids teasing me for believing at the Y after winter basketball when I was in first grade or so.  I still believed and wasn't going to be told any different.

 

Only a year or two later, I found some presents my mother did a poor job of hiding.  It was then that the toothpaste came out of the tube.

 

My son is in second grade now and he's got a little sister, so I hope he hangs on a bit longer.

Wasn't allowed to believe in Santa. Looking back my parents expressed regret not doing it so my kids believe in Santa. However at the moment im so mad at them I'm ready to drop the Santa bomb and tell them Christmas is canceled.

For the parents... this is really cool.  I've done it the past three years for them.

I was eight I think. I found out because my mom forgot to take my tooth for the tooth fairy. Haha.

I think I was maybe 5-6.. But honestly? The truth never stopped me from believing..

When my girls act up, I tell them I saw an elf.  Sometimes I tell them that even when they're being good.  Getting my kids to behave around Christmas is easy.  I just have to remind them Santa doesn't check his list until Christmas eve.

That's what I say.  Santa isn't a person, he's an idea.  When my kids question whether he's real or not I tell them he's absolutely real.  I just leave out that he's not a person, but the spirit behind Christmas.

I don't think a parent should be the one to really break it to kids that Santa isn't real.  You will enjoy it more if they believe in the magic that is Santa.  I couldn't imagine how I would feel if my parents did that to me.

Interesting. I wonder how many parents have made such a decision?

 

The peer pressure among parents regarding Santa Clause is pretty intense, so most just go with the flow. I don't recall having any friends as kids who weren't believers, at least for a while.

My 8-yo asked us if he was real a couple days ago.  We went ahead and told her "yes".

I chalk it up to them just not fully understanding the American Christmas culture, I know lots of other first generation families that never did the Santa thing.
