Its crazy,
In week 16 they play the Titans, whom coming into the game, I believe had the leagues 2nd worst Pass Defense and was minus McCourty for that game. ANY backup in this league should have torched that defense...Bortles played a solid game.
In week 17 they play the Colts, whom coming into that game had allowed EVERY team in the league to throw for over 200 yards, except for 3 and they were all close to 150....again Bortles played solid.
So what? He played solid vs 2 horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible defenses. HE SHOULD HAVE TORCHED THEM. Everyone says Marrone came in and next thing ya know Bortles played great football......uh no, it was more like he played 2 horrible teams and did his job.
I am NOT ok with this Hackett signing...... Blake regressed a TON under him this year, despite the alleged injuries. And what mind you did he get for it? A promotion to OC? Then a raise and an extension!
I was not a fan of Olsen, I dislike Hackett more. I wasn't huge on Chip for this offense.....but seriously..I haven't seen any reason to have given him these things. What did he do that was so great, that made him deserve the promotion. UGH....
I like the Marrone and Coughlin signing....just not so sure about Hackett. I think we are in for another LONG year.
Top 5 here we come
(draft pick)!
Lol remember when the titans destroyed us a few weeks priot
How about everyone stop blaming everyone else but Bortles for being terrible.
I'll be excited if they land the RB with the first pick
Theres just as many red flags with marrone as there is hackett so im not sure how you came to the conclusion that Marrone is a good hire and Hackett isnt.
but the real point here is
Quote:How about everyone stop blaming everyone else but Bortles for being terrible.
also we already have a thread on hackett so im not sure why your opinion needed its own thread

Probably because there's 10 other guys out there every snap with Bortles.
I know you guys like to think the world revolves around a QB and he's the only one who ever makes mistakes. That's just not how it works though.
Bortles doesn't cause people to hold. Bortles doesn't cause people to have false starts. Bortles doesn't cause RBs to fumble. Bortles doesn't cause WRs to drop passes that hit them in the chest.
Bortles has had his faults and has had plenty of mistakes this year, but he can't control 10 other players every snap.
I know that's a really hard concept for you guys to grasp though.......

Its just that bortles makes crucial mistakes at the most important position in the game. Thats an easy concept imo.

There are quarterbacks who threw more picks than BBINT that still made the playoffs. The difference between the Jaguars and the Texans is more than just the difference between BBINT and Osweiller. There are other things to improve upon besides just him.

That is hardly something to celebrate. QB's like that are usually game managers and generally won't win you a Super Bowl nowadays. What's the point of getting to the playoffs if you don't get all the way?

The point is to illustrate that the entire blame is not on Bortles. One of those quarterbacks is Eli Manning.
Didn't Peyton Manning in a Super Bowl last year as a game manager?
Have you ever heard the phrase, "defense wins championships?"
Quote:Its just that bortles makes crucial mistakes at the most important position in the game. Thats an easy concept imo.
Bortles didn't miss field goals. Bortles didn't fumble at the 1 yard line. Bortles didn't tip INTs into the DB's hands in the endzone.
Those aren't crucial mistakes in the most important position in the game are they? No of course not, because you can't use Bortles as your excuse in those instances huh?....
Again, Grasp onto some logic FFS. Nobody here is excusing Bortles of his faults this season, but if you simply blame him for everything that happened this season. You either have a clear agenda of bias hate, or you're just an idiot.
And I'm not simply directing that last part of that above sentence at you. I'm throwing it at the entire forum.

So we're basing everything off of whether you make the Super Bowl or not? Well, I guess there's 30 teams that should cut their starting QBs and start all over huh?

I mean, yeah? Hence why it's the usually the same handful of teams in the playoffs year after year. As Tom said, "What the hell would we be doing here?" That is the goal. The Lombardi trophy.

Why you so amped up this offseason Eric ?

Im not blaming him for every single thing that happened. He just gets the largest chunk of the blame since hes the quarterback and also happens to be bad at playing quarterback. Im not speaking a different language this isnt difficult.
The position that is most important to the game, the one that has a greater influence on the record than any other individual performance is the position Blake Bortles is bad at playing. If he was good at it, we probably wouldnt be mentioning these cumulative mistakes from every other position on the field given the fact that these things happen on every team.
Blake is going to keep shouldering the blame as long as he keeps playing the position that his supposed to shoulder the team as a whole.
Quote: I mean, yeah? Hence why it's the usually the same handful of teams in the playoffs year after year. As Tom said, "What the hell would we be doing here?" That is the goal. The Lombardi trophy.
Here's a thought about those quarterbacks you see in the playoffs year after year... How many of them were being asked to carry that team to the promise land in their 2nd and 3rd seasons?
Big Ben was basically a game manager at first behind a running game and defense.
Tom Brady didn't even throw for 3000 yards in his first SuperBowl campaign, that defense carried the day.
Not like Russell Wilson was flinging the ball all around the yard either, the first 3 years were about 3000 yard seasons where he had Lynch and #LOB
Early on, maybe the best thing for a lot of these young quarterbacks is to have a team around them. Don't put the weight of saving the franchise on their shoulders, let them manage the game until they develop.
QBs asked to be the savior of the franchise without the supporting cast:
Andrew Luck
RG3
Bortles
Gabbert
David Carr
Manziel
Carson Palmer in Cinci
Quote: I mean, yeah? Hence why it's the usually the same handful of teams in the playoffs year after year. As Tom said, "What the hell would we be doing here?" That is the goal. The Lombardi trophy.
What does the same handful of teams have to do with anything? You said that if you don't make the Super Bowl, you should be cut and they should start over. What good does making the playoffs do, right?....

I'm just overly annoyed at some of the stupid one sided, clearly bias and agenda ridden discussions that have been going on lately. It's like a lot of people are just throwing blatant logic and football knowledge out of the window to try and drag somebody's face through the mud.

QBs get all the blame when they lose and way too much praise when they win.
I'm not going to waste my time again talking about drops, routes, caused INTs, penalties, fumbles, missed field goals, etc that don't have much to do with the QB. But of course, simple logic is clearly being thrown out the window here when it comes to Bortles.
I guess I'll have to say it again. Bortles shoulders plenty of blame this season, but there's 10 other guys on the field. It's not that hard of a concept to grasp. Football is the ultimate team sport and no QB, again
NO QB, can do it on his own.

No [BLEEP] he cant do it by himself. But this team wins far more games if he was actually good. You keep bringing up all these issues as if they are the overwhelming reason as to why we dont win, thats not true. The overwhelming reason we dont win is because our quarterback isnt good.
Just checking...
Yep, still a thread about Bortles.
