They'd have to re-sign Ball.  He's a FA in 2015.

 

 As an alternative to Colvin moving outside  -   I actually like the idea of Ball and McCray as starters, Colvin at nickel and Gratz as depth if they wanted to get a couple more years out of McCray.  In many games this season the defense has played 30+ snaps in nickel - so it's not like Colvin's talent would be going to waste. 

 

Of course - I'm sure the team has a vision and I'm just spitballing possibilities.  Regardless - I think we'll continue to see McCray play outside. Hopefully he holds up against Johnson and Hopkins this week.

Ah I missed that he was set to be a UFA this offseason. 

 

No, Colvin's talent wouldn't necessarily be a waste if he was our starting Nickel next year.  All depends on how he looks these next few games and how he develops in the offseason.


I'm curious who McCray is going to be on this week for the majority.  I'm probably benching Hopkins this week in FF because part of me thinks we do pretty well against their WRs.  Our defense is way better than the Titans is though so no way they have that kind of game again.

Whether it's wasting his talent or not (Colvin at nickel) doesn't really matter as the coaches will put the two best on the outside with the third likely taking nickel unless he has issues playing on the inside. (rare - but some  CBs do struggle there) 

 

So that situation will shake itself out.  My point was that Ball played at a very high level in the majority of his games on the outside in Jax. He'd be a good option to keep around - and I wouldn't be shocked if he won a starting spot - if only temporarily. Of course - he may have played his last game as a Jag.

Sorry to ruin the mood, but that's not close to being true. He's 36th in coverage with 5 of the players ahead of him playing less than 250 snaps.Sherman is 8th. Not sure where you're getting that stat from.

 

He's been very good though. I'm a fan.

He played unreal against Antonio Brown. Still today probably defended Brown the best this year.

You could see it last year when he was forced into action. The game never looked too big for him. I think he will be a keeper.

IMO, McCray is standing out vs our subpar corners.  Had we had just average to above average play in the secondary, he wouldn't differentiate himself as much.  That's not to knock McCray, though.  He's stepped up where others have bowed out and he deserves credit for that.

 

It's just hard to overlook Colvin, who has the appearance of a player that has the chance to be something special.

I'm looking at their list right now and he is number 2 for the season.

I've seen this on Seahawks board few days ago. McCray is allowing a reception every 14.8 coverage snaps and is second behind Richard Sherman among players with at least 250 snaps.

Cover Snaps Per Reception is just one of the measures PFF use to grade LBs and DBs in coverage.

I can't figure out how to post screenshots on this forum, but he's 29th overall with a +3.1, and and 34th in coverage with a +2.0. The top rated CB is Chris Harris and he's a +20.1 overall. Revis is 2nd at +17.8. I don't see how McCray can possibly be 2nd overall with those guys rated so far ahead. Maybe you're looking at a sub-ranking of some sort, rather than an overall ranking.

Dude what do you have against McCray? You've been trying to belittle him since he got the starting job.

I'm not sure that he was Tucked Away due to the fact that he remained on the 53 Man Roster...


What I'm am sure of is that the Jaguars were sure of his abilities regardless of his small school up bringing...


McCray, w/the absence of Ball has been our Best CB. He's Seriously shut down his side of the field. Add Colvin into the mix and what do we have???
