I just finished up my black Friday shopping and I decided to purchase both units. I figure I'll give one as a gift and keep the other. What are the pros and considered of each and which do you prefer?
I don't have either but firetv is great, firestick could be had for cheap too.
Especially once you sideload kodi (formally xbmc) the thing works like a champ.
depends on what you want to use it for?

I'm leaning towards keeping the chromecast basically because I want to use it as an extension of my phone. I do a lot of mirroring and streaming. It doesn't hurt to have access to a wide variety of apps as well and that's where I think roku will have the upper hand. I may eventually decide to "cut the cord" in the next couple of months and I'm not sure if chomecast would allow me to so.

Before we moved out here, we had Roku and cut the chord. You couldn't get "live" tv but you could find almost anything on their apps. Of course you had to pay for most of it separate but that's with any streaming device. When we looked at chromecast (over a year ago now so it might have changed) they didn't have as many apps and it was just basically Youtube on your TV type stuff.
I don't have a Roku but I have an Apple TV and a Chromecast. I much prefer the Apple TV.
In fact, the few times I've tried to use the Chromecast I had problems loading the stream and gave up.
I have had the Chromecast for awhile ... maybe 18 months or so.
It's okay for the few things I do use it for, but I wish it would just allow any on-line, on computer casting to your tv. Then again, I guess they wouldn't have any control over what you were able to watch if they gave total control over to the user. Can't have free stuff like that happening, now can we?
