Quote:Regardless on how good we've been getting to the QB this year, we still lack an elite pass rusher that is so important in today's game. We also lack youth at that position.
If we're picking in the top 2 and can't trade down, an edge rusher might be the only position that offers value. Very rarely does a DB go in the top 5
I disagree I think Chris Clemons posses a threat to LTs in the league, just ask Colts Anthony Castonzo or Andrew Luck after getting 3 sacks last week.

He's also on a decline. I expect him to continue to do so next season
Veteran players age, and slow down. That is true, but rookies learn and improve and if given more playing time DE Chris Smith could prove to be the and coming LEO of the future. Sure he only has 1.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble but given more opportunites to play he might show more flashes.

You can literally replace "Chris Smith and "LEO" with all the random DPR guys we've had over the years who showed flashes.
I mean we dont even know what draft pick the team will have let alone the combine results and what not... but I wouldnt be shocked if the team used its high 1st round pick on a passrushing DE as it is a premium position that every team needs / wants.
I think a FS is the biggest need come draft day if not shutdown CB, or a fantastic MILB since Poz is only getting older too.
Walter Football has the Jaguars trading down and getting DE
Randy Gregory as the Leo to replace Clemons. http://walterfootball.com/draft2015.php
along with CBS DE Randy Gregory http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/mock-draft
However, keep in mind many teams had the Jaguars picking Clowney and or Mack in 2014's draft...
I think you have to figure out what Gus & Dave would want...
Which might be DT Leonard Williams SouthCal paired up with Marks the Jaguars DTs duo might be scarier than the Lions!
If Jaguars got 1st overall in the draft (at this time which will probably change) i would have to say that DT Williams is their man.

Clemons had a great game last week, but the rest of the season, he's been just OK. And he probably only has a year or 2 left in the tank at best.

Smith could develop into a Ryan Davis type of player but that's probably his ceiling. Branch is probably the LEO of the future if we don't address it in the draft, but an upgrade would be nice.
I think Telvin Smith on the weak side helped Clemons have a better game, and I think Clemons will do even better this week against a weaker Oline provided he stays healthy (questionable injury for Clemons already)...
Too early to tell with Chris Smith you are probably right but Ryan Davis isnt that bad I think he has like 5 sacks this year? I read that Branch is healthy and might play this week...
Quote:I don't agree. I don't think gratz took the next step that a lot (including myself) thought he would, but if we had a competent offense and cut down the amount the defense is on the field, gratz would look a lot better. As colvin comes along we could see gratz thrive at the nickel spot.
I think when the secondary plays assignment sound they look pretty good. Inexplicably, it seems we are good for at least one blown coverage (often resulting in a long TD) a game. If they could get that issue fixed I think we would have a very solid young secondary, perhaps just needing a true playmaking FS to be really really good.

I agree. Gratz a lot of times will look really good and then he trips or there is a blown coverage. Often times you see cyp coming out of his assignment or shading towards another players zone and it just causes breakdowns in coverage. I'd really love to somehow end up with prewitt but I think oakman could be a later rd 1 steal too.
A trade down could be huge for the team.

I see a lot of the same things regarding Cyp and Gratz. I don't know if they get confused, try to do too much, the coaches aren't teaching enough or whatever, but it definitely seems to be on the mental side. I think both players have the physical talent and ability to be good solid starters if they can iron out the mistakes.
Colvin played a really good game at Nickel last week
I actually think our defense has been fine at times this year. The Offense is killing them putting them in bad spots. I Would cut hood and alualu for more money in free agency. Get a DE,Backup DT by draft or FA. Go get the best SS and FS money buys.
Offence fill in with about 6 picks in the draft. OL,RB,QB and no WR
Quote:I just read this link <a class="bbc_url" href='http://espn.go.com/blog/jacksonville-jaguars/post/_/id/9833/jaguars-top-10-defense-heavy-again?ex_cid=espnapi_public'>http://espn.go.com/blog/jacksonville-jaguars/post/_/id/9833/jaguars-top-10-defense-heavy-again?ex_cid=espnapi_public</a>
which shows the ESPN writer Michael DiRocco feels that Jaguars offense & the turnovers they allow are the reason the Jaguars are so bad.
CB Aaron Colvin could be the answer at CB if he remains healthy and is able to learn fast in these few weeks going into next season.
McCray might be okay on the other end if he continues to improve..
Josh Evans has to go... he's a good back up for depth not good enough to start at FS.
McCray might be ok? What else you want him to do? Clearly he's our best secondary player on the team. If you didn't know he was a 7th round pick and thought he was 1st or 2nd rounder, anybody would say he's lived up to expectations. Where he was picked has clearly left a perception on him for some reason. They moved Dez Bryant off his side to free him up so he could make plays on Gratz and Cyprien.

draft another qb after you gotten one the last draft? Boy ya'll give up on players too fast.
Our defense isn't a problem. Our offense being unable to sustain drives is. Imagine if we had been able to put points up against the Colts. Our defense would have been dominant the whole game. Reggie Wayne didn't have a great game against us.

Henderson & Stroud 2.0.

Inconsistency and mental errors are characteristic of young players.
I think some people underestimate the advantages that experience gives a player. They don't call them savvy vets for nothing.
