Quote:Gerhart was looking like the guy he was expected to be yesterday, and he was fighting for every yard. He would have been the better option if the intention was to run it into the line the way they did with Robinson. Denard is not going to win that battle.
Well, they spent the first part of the year trying to run Gerhart on stretch plays, I guess it makes sense that we're going to use Robinson now as a pounder.

Just before they ran it into the middle the LB filled the gaps we were staring at 9 guys in the box. thats somthing BB has to check out of if you know its not gonna work.

Quote:To be fair, Denard has run well in goal line situations.
Our offensive line let him down yesterday.
We need to be run heavy around the goal line. Bortles has shown he's a liability when passing the ball.
The colts were expecting the run straight up the gut and had their defense aligned to stop it.
The chances are it wouldn't have worked even if Emmit Smith were the guy running the ball.
This is a case where Bortles should have recognized what was in front of him and changed the play.

I guess Fisch is trying to out think his opponent by doing the exact opposite of what they'd expect. That's working out really well for us.

He's the smartest guy in the room, and he'll prove it!

Agreed, but he didn't. Was anyone who was surprised by the fact that Indy was loading up the box to stuff the run? That play should have been taken out of the book. Nobody was fooled.
Quote:I would prefer to roll Bortles out and give him the option to pass or run it in. Use the tight end ona play fake much like every other team in the NFL does.
Roll Bortles out? Fisch doesn't have that play in his book!

Are we sure they're letting him do that? I know he could earlier in the year, but I thought he was baited in the Pittsburgh game and they started telling him to just run the play they sent in.

Except for the fact that 2 months ago the coaches smacked BB's peepee for calling audibles. What do you expect? He's their puppet now and they suck!
Quote:Oh ok, thanks. I didn't see the timeout.
Bortles probably was supposed to float it, but he missed yet again.
Granted it did hit Lewis dead in his mitts. And once again Lewis shows why he just isnt very good.
The ball blake threw on 4th down was also catchable but once again Shorts shows why he is nothing special.

Yep this! They handcuffed him into being a pansy instead of teaching him how to QB.

If they did that is the biggest mistake yet. 1 thing i think we can all agree on is BB does best in the 2 min offense. In that offense BB looks at the defense and calls the plays himself. I say we make BB OC he does better then Fisch.
They said again yesterday that Fisch streamlined the playbook when Bortles took over to make it simpler for him. I like Bortles, and still have high hopes that he'll be the franchise guy here, but if the book was too complex, and simplifying it was intended to help him, that strategy is proving disastrous. Either put Henne in so we can run the entire playbook, or start calling plays that allow your rookie QB to have some success. It's really not rocket science.
I think all the talk about Fisch being a star on the rise and a future head coaching candidate has probably gone to his head. He's calling plays to show everyone just how genius he is, and the snowball of garbage continues to grow. I'd love to see a targeting chart for the passes yesterday. If we threw more than a couple of passes over the middle I'd be shocked.

It makes me wonder if they tailored the playbook for his growth, or for his short term success, because it's the latter then they need the coaching staff cleaned out. If it's the former then it doesn't seem to be working, but at least they're trying to walk the correct path.

Yea, they tailored all of the good plays out of the playbook.

My point is if they're trying to make it as simple as possible and not putting plays in the gameplan meant to challenge him to do things he doesn't feel completely comfortable with yet then they're doing it wrong.
Bread and butter is fine, but there need to be some vegetables in the meal, too.

Agree 100%! We even saw late in the game that they were truly only calling a couple plays over and over, it was pathetic.
I'm not putting all the blame on him, but we need a new OC next offseason. The playcalling has been pretty bad at times.
When Lee was caught from behind I knew we would not score
