Quote:Never trade with Belichick. You will lose.

The Raiders trading for Richard Seymour still baffles me.  I know # Al Davis ... but still.

If Belichick offered to trade Tom Brady for an 11th round pick in a 7 round draft, I still wouldn't do it.
I guess the reason they won't go with Tom Savage yet is because they're still in the hunt. Otherwise, they should see what he's got.

Quote:You know that in the little bit that he played? I don't see how you could logically come to this conclusion.

Mallett even in the Cincinnati game looked very comfortable in commanding the huddle, looking like a natural field general when using verbiage and setting up his protections. And that was while playing injured. There were noticeable moments in games where Offensive linemen and even tight ends weren't lining up where they were supposed to, and some of that was clearly due to miscommunication from Fitzpatrick to those linemen.

Fitzpatrick has played admirably as well and had picked up the offense relatively quickly, but it's still obvious that Mallett is more knowledgable of the offense overall. Whether that means he will become a franchise QB remains to be seen.
Has Watt also got the best hands of any Tight End in the division?

The guy is ridiculous

Quote:Mallet out for the season

Yep, this one really hurt.  When healthy he ran the offense the best it's been run during the Browns game, but now we can't go into the draft without QB high on our list.  I expect the Texans to sign Mallet to very reasonable 4 year contract, sign a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round if there are any left, and have all 3 (including Savage) compete for the job.  I still think Savage won't be ready until 2016 though.  We seem to be cursed when it comes to finding a franchise QB.

I'm curious, what do you mean by reasonable? Chad Henne money? 5 million a year?

They couldn't possibly franchise him, that would be way too much money, so if he wants to test the market he'll be able to do so.

Yes something around there.  The only upside of the injury is that this guy only has 2 starts (1 good, 1 bad due to injury) in 4 years he's not going to be worth any more than that on the open market.  If he played out the rest of the season well he could approach Matt Flynn type of money.  The other advantage is that he's been trained in the Patriots offense, so he will definitely want to stay with the Patriots-south Texans where he had his one good game.

**Edit: Patriots-south indicates the offense system

So then the question becomes, does he want a long term deal for backup level money, or is he thinking he's starting material and would rather do a short deal and cash in sooner?
Just a guess on my part, but I'm pretty sure his main priority is to start as a QB.  But you're right in the fact that he is already 26 years old, so maybe 4 years for cheap is limiting his upside.  Maybe they'll do something with roster bonuses that escalate over time, something like $4 million signing bonus, with salaries of 2M, 4M & 4M roster bonus, 5M, 6M with another $8M in roster bonus for the last two seasons.  But even those numbers a heck of a risk for a guy that's only played 2 games.
