Quote:Did anyone really expect to win that game... I only had us beating the Browns, Texans and Titans this year. Yesterday was not a surprise... take off your college football glasses and remember these are employees.. not competitors.
It's not that we are losing (which is bad enough), it's how we are losing. We look like a turd out there week after week. Of our 10 losses, 8 are by double digits....it's a ridiculous argument to ask people why some of us are upset. The answer is because we are tired of looking like excrement.
Quote:We're not. We are regressing in the worst possible way. That's poor coaching. We should have at least three wins by now. I'm not bellyaching. It is what it is, but it should be better than it is at this point in the rebuild.
I suppose that if we had a team with a winning record and was doing well this season and then we went out and played like we did yesterday it would be a 'knee-jerk' reaction to respond negatively to it. However, we have been playing poorly for the most part all season (with notable exception to the defense...at times). It should go without saying that a team with such a high percentage of rookies is going to struggle. That not withstanding, at some point in the later half of the season the development of this team should start becoming apparent.... it isn't. In fact, in some rather significant areas (aka-Bortles performance...) it seems to have actually regressed. I'm not knowledgeable enough to be able to irrefutably point out the causes of this situation; is it the playes? the coaches? the schemes? a combination of all the above?
All I know at this point is that I'm pretty tired of our team going out and 'at best' only one part of the team playing well, and only for part of a game. It certainly hasn't been fun to be a jags fan for some years now.

Our offensive numbers are also inflated from when we socre in garabage time against bench players.
Jedd Fisch is the king of the screen pass to the RB in garbage time to march 30-40 yards down the field as time expires to inflate his offense's numbers.
Fisch isn't very good inflating his numbers because he is still ranked bottom of the barrel.

His numbers are pathetic but they are inflated some by garabage time yards and TDs.
This team is getting worse and worse. Knee Jerking????? Really???
You didn't know, 27 games is kneejerking. Pretty soon they will say 5 seasons is kneejerk

lol year 5
"I don't get why many of you kneejerkers thought this would be an overnight process, it takes time. Sure the team has been 23-57 under DC/GB but look at what Gene left him with. If you bibbers want instant gratification just go be a Patriots fan herp derp."
Quote:It called accountability. If Guy and Bradfield and Watson can be cut, so can Mallory.
I agree, and I think he (Mallory) will be. I just don't expect it to happen until the season is over.
Whether I would handle it differently is a different story. I just don't see Gus, Caldwell, or Shad pulling the trigger on any of the coaches during the remainder of this season.

Agreed. Its pretty rare to fire an assistant coach mid-season. ST's coach along with DC and OC will be addressed this offseason.
Quote:To be fair, I'm not going to lose sleep if any or all of our coaching staff is gone after this season.
But I do love coming on this board to read "the rookie excuse no longer counts with 5 games still left in their rookie season". That's almost a third of their rookie season remaining but "being a rookie" is just an excuse.

Pro tip: Any job or career that you can master at the highest level within 8 months is too easy. (I used 8 months because it's 2/3 of one year, not because any of these rookies have actually been in the NFL that long)
Lol, your ability to take my words and then reductio ad absurdum is either pure genius, or worrisome for the lack of comprehension... Don't know which yet...
I didn't realize that our rookies just started playing football this year.... I was under the impression they have been playing since high school or something. Also it's important to recognize being an NFL player is very similar to being a business or academic professional... It's all similar. And we all thank you for your hyper intelligent insight on these matters... You, slick, are the most important and intelligent poster on the inter webs.
Quote:I give Joeckel a little more leniency than the other two and I don't think Blake's played enough games to label it "regressing" (that's probably more a matter of semantics), but overall, I agree. I haven't been impressed with this coaching staff.
I think the rookies could look competent, if we were only starting a couple of them and they had quality vets around them. Robinson and Hurns have looked competent. I think Hurns would look more competent on a veteran offense. Linder and Bowonko have looked competent and I think they would look even moreso if they were playing next to better "veterans" than Joeckel, Beadles, and whoever we happen to trot out at RT. I think Lee would probably be having troubles on any team, though he'd probably look better in Denver or NE. And I think if Bortles had walked into a Wilson or Rodgers situation, he wouldn't be in this discussion either. But when you trot them all out together and can't get any reliable help from your quality vet WR and your "quality" vet TE, it's going to be ugly.
Good post, I agree with most of this.
Quote:Oakland just beat KC.
It's not just winning and losing, it's getting blown out every game. The Jags are the Washington Generals of the NFL.
Thank all things holy that we're not on TV this Thursday.

WOW!!!!! 23 wins, who the heck did we beat and what was the scores?
I still won't believe it.

Yep, remember MM didn't get fired until after the season.
And GS got the axe after the season too, on his birthday if I remember correctly.
