Quote:2005 and 2007 were nice years!
2006 should have been even better. The team had a top 5 offense and defense statistically speaking. They beat the Colts by 30 points. But like almost all Del Rio teams they fell apart in December and missed the playoffs.

Quote:I'm able to be patient with this rebuild because I see signs of young talent being added to the roster. While we can't predict the future - I feel Caldwell may be the GM who rights the ship in Jacksonville. The sheer number of promising players under the age of 25 is impressive IMO.
The problem with many Jags fans is that they tried to be patient with prior rebuilds only to watch them fail. As a result - they are too jaded to have hope in the new regime or can't see the signs of young talent being acquired for long term sustainability. I sympathize with them - but remain optimistic that next season will reveal major progress.
I am optimistic as well but it's just a punch in the gut week after week. Going to games used to be fun. People say "rebuilding since 1999" but there were some good years when Del Rio was here. The games were at least close and we won more than we lost.
But the last four years have been awful. I can't say the team is more competitive right now than when Mularkey was here two years ago. And that is a problem. The team is so far away from competing in the most parity heavy sports league, it is sad.

Manchester United is god awful now. Why are we talking about them?

There is no 3 year timetable. That's a fan's myth. You cut the cord when it's obvious the decision was wrong. Whether HC, OC, DC, GM, or any player.

You rebuild of course.

It's never going to end until the Jaguars find an elite coach. An elite coach brings in elite players. Plain and simple.

Caldwell's gonna be so disappointed to learn this. :teehee:

I'm serious. He tells what type if players he can coach that will work in his system. Look at Coughlin and Belichick.
I believe in Cakdwell, and I think he's doing well. But he's doing it all on his own. I think Bradley has a blue print , however it's not working so far.

Well all know that at the end of this season, every single coach is going to meet at the 50 yard line with a four loko, and they're going to hash everything out. Once everything is done, we will clearly have the coaching staff for 2015!

Quote:2007 was great... The wheels pretty much started falling off since then...
Well, in 2010 we were in contention to win the division right up to the end. We didn't, but that doesn't mean it wasn't an interesting year. But I get what you're saying.
The thing to remember is that with only a couple of exceptions, the players and staff are almost entirely new. We shouldn't hold them accountable for what's happened since 2007. It's ok to hold them accountable for what's happened since 2013 but I think you have to give any complete rebuild effort a 3 year grace period.

And yet the GB coach said Sunday night that he has zero input into the players brought in, that the GM gives him the guys and he goes to work. It's almost like there's many ways to do it and they can all work if done right. Except the "most of your roster wasn't drafted here" system, that seems to fail everywhere (Chicago being the most recent example).

You mean the Coughlin who is about to be fired? What "elite" players has Coughlin brought to the Giants?
