Quote:I thought most of the guys involved in the Bin-Laden raid had died in a helicopter accident a while back?
Watch the movie Lone Survivor. True story. A few men got killed on the rescue mission to save the 4 SEALS.
If you haven't seen the film, do so. It'll hit ya hard. Did me anyway...but it'll give you a different perspective on how certain Afghan cultures treat guests. These in particular protected Luttrell, the last SEAL left. Even under Taliban threats, they wouldn't give him up. Why? He was their guest.
It's possible this same custom is why they wouldn't give up Bin Laden, making it understandable at least.
Very proud, resilient people.
Quote:Correct. Matt Bissonette mentions the Captain Phillips rescue a couple times in: "No Easy Day".
Yes. The guy in question now was the first guy on the Navy carrier after they parachuted into the sea. Crazy stuff. Some bad boys.

I saw that movie was a great movie, but that's not what I was talking about. There was a helicopter crash I dunno maybe 2 years ago, something like 19 SEALS died, and I had read most of them where involved in the raid on Bin-Laden it was a real tragedy.
Lone Survivor was an awesome story.
These Operators swear and oath to keep their mouths shut and should do so. As a female veteran, I love reading their stories because they are able to do stuff women aren't allowed to do in the military, stuff I would have loved to do, but they shouldn't be talking about it.
Unless it's smoke and mirrors stuff like someone else mentioned. But I don't think the military would let it happen with real names attached to stories. They would make sure there were fake names involved so as to cover everyone's butts.
And if something happens to this dude and his family, it's on him. He chose to talk and if I were his wife I'd be hella mad. The military has no obligation to protect anyone who has gone outside the wire.

The Lone Survivor story is a great one but the movie is no match for the book. Please read the book of you liked the movie. The book is an actual account while the movie is much more about action and drama.

There's still a lot of debate about who exactly fired the kill shot. Whether it was Mark Owen A.K.A. Matt Bissonnette, Robert O'Neill, or the mysterious and yet unnamed "Pointman" who at the very least was said to have wounded Bin Laden.
.
It was the second gunman on the grassy knoll.

Funny joke.
In all seriousness though, we'll never know exactly who killed Bin Laden; unless the Pointman comes forward. And many SEALs are saying that this man will never do that.
It was a team effort. I am pretty sure he didn't know how to fly a helicopter, nor did he gather the intelligence that led to the Laden compound. He is just the look at “ME” puke that believes he deserves all the credit.
Good shot.

I agree! He couldn't have done anything without the rest of his team!

It's OK, we'll never know exactly who killed Kennedy either.
It doesn't really matter who took the shot that killed Bin Laden, it's still mission accomplished.

Not to mention that he benefited from the anonymity and discretion practiced by the SEALs who came before him.

That was Lee Harvey Oswald.
