very talented guy. got a raw deal with those injuries.... i would have loved to see what he could do in the NFL.

I wish the NFL still required players to wait four years because now they only go to college to play football instead of get their education, completely ignoring the fact that they can't play forever.

except there are degrees you can get in 2 or even 3 years... and a lot of guys stay for their senior year too....

True, but many players leave early when they are studying for four-year degrees.

 

I feel bad for Marcus Lattimore. He was going to be a top 5 pick in the draft before his knee got torn up.

I'd be curious to see how many one-and-done guys actually go back to school. The guys who play for 2-3 years (or more) have no excuse for not being able to save up enough to finish their degree, but how many underclassmen that only stick for part of a year, if they even make it out of camp, end up going back to school vs. taking a job as an insurance salesman?

Apparently we don't have to worry about Marcus Lattimore not going back to school.

Sports isn't the only profession people leave school early to pursue. Sometimes it is out of necessity.

Lattimore is a rare example of an athlete who probably would have benefited if only a 2 year college attendance was required.

Lattimore would of been the next dominant RB if it wasnt for the injury

I somewhat figured this would happen. Everyone likes to point to Willis McGahee's injury and figured he would be able to come back not realizing its a medical miracle he's just able to walk on his own.

Or that they should be paid. They can always deduct the cost of the education from their wages

I was there at Williams Brice when he went down. Never heard 80,000 people so quiet or seen so many people distressed over a player injury. The genuine terror on Marcus' face when he looked down at his leg basically flopped off to the side was horrifying to watch. I wish him the best. I know Spurrier said something about bringing him on board the staff at SC in some capacity. I think that would be great. Marcus is absolutely adored in Columbia.

Im glad he retired instead pushing too hard and possibly ending up on crutches or in a wheel chair for the rest of his life. You cant tell a 20 year old to stay in school instead of potentially making millions a year. Im thankful he seems like he has a good head on his shoulders. Also hate that an amazing athlete had his career ended. Best of luck, Marcus!!!

Very sad that we will never get to see him in the NFL but I am glad he isnt going to force anything and make the situation worse. Also glad the 9ers have handled this whole thing very well.
