Not the TD/INT ratio you want -- but seems about right for a rookie that was touted as a raw prospect with upside.
I'm more excited about his pocket awareness, elusiveness and willingness to sling it than I am worried about the steep learning curve he's facing with his reads and decision making. That stuff is just so much more teach-able.
Look at Luck's rookie season. While his TD:INT ratio was better, his accuracy was much worse. He also had Reggie Wayne and a vet group of O-lineman. You give Bortles that and his stats would be a lot better.
He's a rookie surrounded by an offense that is very raw and inexperienced. It's a recipe for inconsistency and there's zero reason to panic.

I dont remember Bortles looking as slow as he did today when he ran.

I just learned today that Peyton Manning had close to 30 interceptions his rookie year. Although it does not excuse Bortles play in any way whatsoever, it does bring some solace to many rumblings that surround him at the moment. My biggest beef with him is that he "telegraphs" a good percentage of his passes and that's NOT some rookie flaw. He needs to kick that habit quickly or he will have a short lived career not just with the Jags, but the entire NFL.

I've believed in Bortles since the beginning but I am becoming concerned with his stupid throws. They aren't aggressive throws any more, they are just plain stupid at times.

I'm a UCF guy, but if you can't at least admit Bortles makes some atrocious throws then there's no arguing with you. There are parts of the team to get better, but Bortles is high on the list. He has regressed instead of getting better for the most part.

You misunderstand what is meant by competitive.
After a year of going 4-12:
- They don't mean: "We went 1-15 but at least some of those losses against the bottom feeders of the league were by single digits".
- They do mean: "We went 6-10 but at least some of those losses against good teams were by single digits".

What would you have him do? He is following the game plan. To start the game, the decision was quick reads to a single receiver. How can you look off quick slants, outs and screens? The game plan was obviously paired down to help reduce interceptions.
I don't think the bunched formations and short routes give him a chance to scan the field.

I agree there has been a regression in Blake's play. Anyone that doesn't see it, is likely choosing to ignore it. Bortles seemed to look better when he first got here and has progressively looked worse as time has gone on. That doesn't speak of a "Bortles" issue though. If Bortles was the main issue there, he'd likely have played sub par the entire time here, pre-season and otherwise - much like Gabbert was. I think what we're seeing is an issue with coaching in regards to Blake. Its something to keep an eye on.

OK -- everyone reverts back to the fact that Manning had 28 Ints in Year 1.
flashback to 1985
Hey -- Dan Marino had 21 Ints in his 3rd year and had a 84.1 passer rating. Dolphins ruined Marino.
Oh -- Elway had 23 Ints in his 3rd year on his way to a 70.2 passer rating. Broncos ruined Elway.

The difference between Bortles the last couple of games and Bortles the first few games is that the opposing defensive coordinators now have enough tape to start designing game plans to specifically attack his weaknesses. NFL coaches and players are very good at doing that and it's a big reason you'll see rookies come in and look great before tapering off a bit. For Bortles, his job in the off season will be to work on those weaknesses to the point were defensive coordinators will be in a "pick your poison" situation because he'll (hopefully) be able to exploit the defense no matter what they try.

There is a reason the coaches wanted him to set out an entire season. He is the youngest QB in the league behind a terrible OL, He will get better and learn but it's going to take him time plus we need to add more talent around him. If you watch him when he forces the ball he is locking in on his WR's but if he would look underneath a lot of times he has guys wide open. He will learn to take what the defense is giving and throw the ball away as he progresses, I was hoping he could ride the bench until about 3-5 games to go but the OL is so bad and Henne cannot move so the coaches had no choice. With that said I do wish they would run the ball more, the OL seems to be able to run block pretty well.

... didn't read the thread, but the reasons listed therein must detail exactly why I thought it would behoove us to sit Bortles for at least half the season.
I wish we could have waited patiently for Bortles to mature and develop before throwing him to the wolves. But it didn't happen, so we play the hand we are dealt.
Bortles will improve- I am sure of that.

Unfortunately the team didn't have much choice. The whole team was doing poorly and Henne was absolutely awful. If Henne was still in there now and we are winless, a lot of fans would probably have left.
