To me, that looks more like equipment failure than it being shear force from the ripping of the facemask.

Those helmets have some kind of "quick release" system for facemasks not entirely sure how it works but it may play a role in that

I've never seen something like that before either.

Ole Miss RB Walton had the same thing happen in a game earlier this year.

These types of things didnt happen back in the 60's. Am I right TMD???
