Quote:Wrong not everyone gets a voice that would equate a democracy not a republic. Everyone gets representation but that's different then a voice.

felons don't get a voice but they have representation as citizens for example.

During our development as a nation we once held standards of reading and land ownership so even historically speaking your notion of a voice for all is wrong.
The government and constitution was designed to grow and evolve. I think that's a good thing.

Fine but when you go from a republic to a democracy that's not growing or evolving, that's changing the structure completely. The way the two systems operate are completely different.
Quote:Well, it could mean that billionaires like Soros or the Kochs, or even millionaires like the Hollywood elite have undue influence in our political process. An educated and engaged populace is the best thing to prevent tyranny. The question is whether or not our populace is sufficiently educated and engaged to act as that safeguard? The anti-Democrat in me says that last night proves we do, but I'm really not sure.

Well, you're  going to have to worry until the day you die. People like you have worried about those people since the beginning of the republic. Although you don't like it, the franchise has been expanding and that's not going to change.

And who are you to decide what "undue influence" is? As the saying goes - your people are lobbyists; my people are concerned citizens.

And you don't get to decide who fits your criteria of "an educated and engaged populace".

Stop it - you just look desperate to turn back the clock.

I realize you wish it was still 1890, but you really ought to try and deal with the world as it is rather than dream of the world you wish it were.

Stop calling out your misinformation? We don't live under a democracy, not everyone has a voice as you put it.

Nor was that ever the intention, as I've pointed out. Now if you want to have a conversation about why a democracy would be better and that we should change from a republic to a democracy let's have that conversation. But don't sit there and try and sell it as we've always been a democracy and to suggest otherwise is wrong.

Thanks for the third grade civics. Is that the level you want to deal with?

You act as if you just learned that we have a representative form of government. Congratulations! A few of us have been aware of that for a while.

I guess we're never allowed to speak of democracy or Professor Eric will admonish us.

Now - go back to you efforts to convince others that we'd be better of if only elites had a voice in the affairs of our country.

You said "this is America we all get a voice like it or not" it's not true now nor in the history of the nation has that EVER been true. Don't get offended when someone points out the statement is 100% false.
