I would love to score more than 21 points agian, but my biggest worry now is the linebackers.

I can't remember if it was the 4th quarter of late 3rd of the clowns game...

 

But our D had them pinned deep.  We decided to play soft...  Each CB was off the LOS by 5 yards.  At snap they were back pedaling.

 

We only rushed 4 and played a soft zone.  Guess what happened?  They torched us with a slant that was wide open and went for 20-30 yards.

 

Babich went back to playing press and blitzing, and we got the ball back.  We are bad at playing zone.  We have to play press.  It's just the way it is.  We don't have enough talent or speed to play that type of D without getting torched.

I am sorry about Poz's injury and I wish him well. He was the defensive play caller and had experience that can't be easily replaced, and he was a reliable tackler. That being said, it is nevertheless also true that Poz was a (relatively speaking) slow linebacker and struggled to cover pass plays in the middle of the field... his area. We've been burned over the middle many times. Our need for linebacker upgrades is only second to our need for a better offensive line.

Me too. I started liking him when he was in college. He won the Butkus Award as an OLB, then moved inside the next year because Sean Lee had a torn ACL. That move must have made him better because he never played on the outisde again.


I never understood why people said Poz sucks while he played with three minor injuries. When they finally said he is the best player on defense he played with a season-ending injury. It is like people finally realized being hurt made him less effective after his name was taken off the injury report.



I am confident the defensive line will give Tannehill a bad day with some help from Telvin Smith. Losing Andre Branch is not as bad as losing Paul Posluszny. If we can do our job at the LOS our defense should be OK. But I will worry about the MLB until I see what he can do as the starter.



Easily. There is no reason to think it means nothing if you saw the game. Charlie Whitehurst was forced to throw because we shut down the run game. We made him look worse than the Browns did. It was pretty obvious all of our stats against the Titans mean something.

You know little about football if you take making Charlie Whitehurst look like an all pro is a good sign for your defense.

We stopped the run on a bad Titans team, that was playing with its BACKUP QB, and still lost.


I'm all down for the improvement talk, but I'm not ready to talk about being the #1 ranked defense the past two weeks. Quite frankly, it's pathetic.
