Center Luke Bowanko (right ankle) said his postgame X-rays were negative. He was injured, returned and left for good. “No bones are in the wrong place,” he said. “It’s football, part of the game, and I wasn’t close to being the only one out there playing in discomfort. It hurts a lot less when you win the game.”

Linder had the best game of any linemen Sunday. Says a lot since it was the groups best performance all year.
I like the players these guys are maturing into. Anybody else agree?
Damn, they really took a lot of injuries Sunday....
We get one win and lose 2 starters and injure 1 more.
I had thought it was a knee issue at first when they were looking at him on the field.

Decent young group with room to grow.
Bowanko is really impressing. You don't see many rookie Cs playing as well as he is no matter when you draft them. There's a maturation process that they all go through.
One thing that does concern me with the OL youth is the upcoming rookie "wall" later in the season.
And the uneducated "line sux" and "regressing" comments that are sure to follow...

No, it's just you're not intelligent enough to follow a season, even when the patterns appear again, and again, and again, every year.
So I see you're signing up for the Coaching Sucks pre-sale package.
How quaint.
And predictable as the day is long.
Sad.
Very sad.
If he was any good, he wouldn't allow the excitement of a win make his injury hurt less. He needs to get angry!

So stupid, why do you even root for this team?
I'm pretty optimistic about this group. If Joeckel can improve, then we only may need to find a replacement for Beadles. And even if Joeckel struggles this year, I'm sure they give him another year at minimum considering his draft position, the injury, and the fact that he switched positions.

he doesn't
If the group remains relatively healthy they will see much improvement as the year progresses. As they spend more time in the NFL training programs they will get stronger as well. Should be a solid group going forward.
I hope he hits 100% soon, Its nice seeing the Oline finally get some things together. Hoping they keep getting better as the year goes on.

This team? Because I like this team. My comments towards pirk there are because he seems to be making a pre-emtive excuse for struggling towards seasons end. There doesn't have to be struggles at seasons end by this team. The 1990 Cowboys didn't struggle at seasons end and they had a lot of rookies and young players. Pirk tries to make it sound like a given that rookies have to struggle or hit a wall. Its not 100%
just watched the "sounds from this sunday" video and after the game, Bowanko was walking into the lockerrom without a limp or anything
The two rookies are my favorites of the O-line. Who would have thought that the right side of the line was the least of the worries when the season started?
Everyone plays dinged up. Glad its nothing serious. Pretty excited about this young group. May not ever be labeled as "Elite" but they could be pretty good. These singles Caldwell hits in the draft are much better than the whiffs Gene made regularly
Joeckel looked really good also. He's basically just now entering is second full season. The unit has to build off that performance and show some consistency. Not regress and get abused an entire game.

I'm not impressed with Luke so far. He was #2 overall so I feel like the expectations are fair. Pastor has had a couple [BLEEP] plays too.
I hope the run game keeps rolling.
Joeckel has had his ups and (mostly) downs this season, but he was the best player on the O-Line Sunday, as well he should be.

Hold on there a second.
In the case of those Cowboys, you often couldn't tell if they were hitting the wall or not.
In his rookie year, Aikman was injured, Daryl Johnston was a FB who rarely touched the ball, and Stepnoski was a C.
Emmitt Smith wasn't utilized much until late in the season, which is one of the reasons Shula was fired as OC.
In 1991, generally considered the best draft class of the JJ era, the four rookie starters from that class-Russell Maryland, Alvin Harper, Dixon Edwards, and Erik Williams-did not become starters until after the midway point of the season.
The one rookie you MIGHT be able to make that case for is LB Robert Jones, who started immediately and played most of the season. Kevin Smith and Darren Woodson were not even immediate rookie starters for that team.
If there is a rookie who is starting opening day, the chances are good he will hit the proverbial rookie wall and you can see it.
If there is a rookie who does not start or get much playing time until much later in the season, they may not hit the proverbial rookie wall-or if they do it may not be readily noticeable- because you don't have much of a baseline with which to compare his late season performance.
For those of you who are hating on Joeckel, I have no idea why. For one thing, he's been steadily improving since he got here, in spite of a positional change and a season-ending injury (for example, on D-Rob's TD run, I saw him pushing two defenders back at once- his run blocking has gotten much better and his pass pro isn't far behind). Secondly, who would you have rather taken? 2013 was one of the weakest drafts in memory. Fisher is terrible, Jordan is suspended and not talented, Johnson got suspended and isn't talented... Joeckel got injured but he's coming back and playing at a high level.
Anyway, on topic... Linder and Bowanko have been huge surprises. I thought Linder was a reach just to have a starter, but he's playing like a upper level vet, and his ability to move to the second level is very impressive. Bowanko is doing better than you could ask for a rookie 6th round center... If he pans out to be a long-term solution (especially considering we got him with the Gabbert trade) it would be a coup for us and a great credit to Caldwell.
