Tldr;
I like the positive tone this guy is bringing to the board.

This rebuild started in Jan 2012. Caldwell seems to be selling something a little better than the snake oil solicitors we've entertained heretofore.
I'm 1000% more confident in his ability than his predecessors'.
Cynicism is to be expected when you're in consecutive rebuild number three at 1-6 and the prior two rebuilds failed.
It's cute. Maybe a year or so late to be funny, but it's still cute.

Quote:Podlesh was a good punter IMO.
Matt Turk was a good punter. The reason he didn't work out is because Gene Smith tried to repurpose him for something he was not geared for. Turk was a hang time boomer. Gene Smith wanted a placement punter. Even though Turk TOLD Gene Smith he was a boomer, and even demonstrated that skill at his workout, Smith signed him anyway. That is why Turk got upset when the crowd booed him and I can't say I blame the guy. Turk's record with the Jags was a shining example of Gene Smith's ineptitude.

I like that the board allows trolling.

No, he got booed because he fumbled a punt and later in the game punted the ball 2 yards down the field. He was asked to be a placement punter but that doesn't excuse whiffing on a snap and a 2 yard punt later.

I had forgotten about the 2 yard punt. If I remember correctly, he was trying to change his punting style and was having a hard time with it. But yeah, it was a train wreck. Wrong hire for the job.

Didn't we match Chicago's offer and he decided to walk anyway?

I don't know but I do think Podlesh was the best paid punter in football for a while.

Another sterling example of the need for post count restrictions.

Quote:Actually, this is what happens when a T-U commenter builds up the nerve to post here. Remember Jungle Cat? He's another one who gave it a go.
If we could get a straight answer out of this dummy about his views on Tim Tebow (worships Him) or the scoreboard funding (unfair and crooked, by God!) he would reveal himself immediately. Alas, we're stuck with his sixth grade attempt at thinly veiling his T-U Commenter Group Fury behind 'witty' sarcasm. It's really more sad than anything.
Not even close. I don't post on the TU board and never have, in fact I don't really follow the Jaguars anymore, nor even live in Jacksonville. I did used to post regularly here way back in the day, and I always found it amusing how blindly accepting the stanbase was of Ketchman's wretchedly bias and cliche doctrines. It seemed so few people here actually observed and thought about football for themselves, and back when I actually gave a spit about the team it was really quite frurstrating. Now that I'm divested from it I find it pretty hilarious though.
Jars on the shelf, run the ball and stop the run, it's a young man's game, Gene Smith knows what he's doing, yadda yadda yadda. I know there were a whole lot more that I've forgotten. Ahh, the way people used to parrot that guy. Just remarkable. The funny thing is, the one good piece of advice he ever espoused was about drafting for value instead of need, and as the team perpetually failed to do that he would always twist and spin it on their behalf so as not to sound coinflicting with team agenda, and the fan base would just buy the explaination hook, line and sinker. Oh, and he absolutely loved handsome quarterbacks. No matter how limited their skillset was or replaceable their talents, just give the team a young, handsome quarterback and he believed the world would be in their palms. The issue was that the guy was a football story teller, not an analyst, and hardly anybody in the teams fans realized what the difference is. Oh, and the way galvanized the Gene Faithful by hyping the guy up beyond belief the moment he took the job was really one for the ages. This board was hypnotized with 'Gene is the Savior' fever. And now what? Are those people admitting how foolish and sheep-like they were, or are they just artfully dodging all reminders of it?
Anyway I just thought it would be nice to make a quick appearance here after 10 years or so and rub in a little i-told-you-so. Because I certainly did, and clearly I was right.
