Quote:Houston is probably the first team to give up 24 points in one quarter two straight weeks. Didn't Mike Tirico say something about that? Even worse, on Monday night they did it in just three minutes.
How could a team do that with such an angry (successful) coach?  Impossible!

Trick plays and turnovers.

Nope, not enough anger.

LOL!  LOVE IT!
Texans are terrible. One player is all pro and another all pro who is all old.

So you think it is a fluke they won three games?

3 lousy teams.

That is good to know.

I must have missed Mike Tirico's info but the info probably is correct.    The Texans Defense put the team in a hole they couldn't overcome against the Colts.   Against the Steelers,  more of the blame should be placed on their Offense and Special Teams.

On Defense,  what stands out when J.J. Watt isn't wrecking havoc is they have major issues with pass coverage.    They don't seem to have a LB that matches up well in man to man coverage.   They have one legit starting CB and a SS that seems one dimensional.     If Jadeveon Clowney gets and stays relatively healthy for long periods of time,   that could lead to major improvement in the Texans pass Defense.  Until/  unless that happens,  they are in serious trouble.

On Offense,  the Texans don't have enough of a passing attack that can compensate when their ground game is kept in control.   The Steelers put an extra defender in the box after the Texans running game torched them in the 1st QTR.    The Texans didn't take enough advantage of this.

Having said all of this,  after a 2-14 season,  it's not surprising that the Texans have a long way to go to get back and beyond their high points in the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
Quote: And why you always must have a franchise QB!

I can't agree with that. 6 teams from the AFC will make the play offs. Not all of them will have a franchise QB. We did it with Schaub, the Chiefs did it with Smith. Sanchez took his team to the AFC Championship game two years in a row.

There will be a team in the play offs this year without a franchise QB... may as well be us.

Funny Sanchez was an anomaly. And Texans don't have a shut down D. The rest were never a serious playoff threat. Yes

You are talking about teams that did not have very good quarterbacks. We have a franchise quarterback who has not reached his potential yet because he is a rookie. If you want to make comparisons, look at the Vikings, whose rookie quarterback started playing on the same day ours did and was drafted to be the franchise quarterback. And even the Vikings have more than two players older than 24 on their offense. So you can't make any apples to apples comparisons.

He probably means you must have a franchise QB to make a SERIOUS Super Bowl run in the playoffs.

There are plenty of times that an average or so QB has made the playoffs and maybe even won a game, but to be a serious Super Bowl contender, your team needs at least a franchise QB, with few exceptions. ( Dilfer, Johnson, even Grossman got there, although he lost.)

There will be a couple of teams that make the playoffs this year without a franchise QB, but they won't be anywhere near winning the SB.
The NFL's best defense, which had Ray Lewis, bailed out Trent Dilfer. And Dilfer was a veteran playing with veterans.

Rex Grossman was hot and cold. For several weeks he looked great; then he was terrible. The Bears lost to Peyton Manning.

I would be OK with beating 3 lousy teams.

It would be much worse to lose to 3 lousy teams, that's for sure.

I know what happened in those SB games.

I'm just saying that neither of those guys, or Brad Johnson w/Bucs, are franchise QBs and that they are the exception that a non-franchise QB can make it there.

They all 3 had really good to great defenses though.

Was the punky QB elite?

Who? McMahon.

No, McMahon wasn't elite, his team had a great and legendary defense, but I'm sure you already knew that.

Elite QB's don't play for 7 teams, although Favre did get to 4.

They crushed the Pats that SB.
