Tony Ransom from the Kings is good but I definitely would not trade the #1 pick for a hockey player; even though he too, has championship pedigree which one can't put a value on.

I think it's a trade down then pick up as many decent defensive players as possible. And maybe an offensive linesman.


I also like the idea of picking up a mid round running back if Johnson/Robinson don't work out.


Gurley and Mariota sound like the only top-tier players at this stage, but the former would be a luxury and the latter unnecessary.

Collins seems to be a late first rounder currently.  The two linebackers currently seem to be late first to early 2nd.  Duke is 2nd/3rd and Arie is usually 3rd.

This would be an amazing draft. Gurley, Drummond, Shaw, AJ Johnson look more likely like home runs... Lets make it happen! 

Caldwell should be fired on the spot if he takes Gurley in the first.

Why should he be fired. For taking one of the best offensive prospects in years? For taking a weapon for the offense which needs help? Next year's draft doesn't offer a whole lot for offense. Couple WR's and a couple RB's. Very few OL players as well if you decide to complain about the line. The projected top half of the draft is defensive linemen or pass rushing LB's. Why not grab a weapon that the offense could most likely rely on if something happens to the pass game. Such as WRs or even Bortles becoming injured.


Guess which offensive position helps the defense the greatest? A running back. The reason for this is the clock keeps running. The clock doesn't stop like it will on an incomplete pass. More time used means less playing time for the defense.


Caldwell has not failed since arriving here like some want to believe. Free Agency, the players get to choose if they want to accept the deal or if it will be a good fit. Caldwell does his job and brings them in. Draft, he has gotten players who are playing on this team. If you would like to say Joeckel, he was the top rated OT in the draft when selected. He has gotten players trying to fix the issues with the team. He knew the line would probably be an issue still when grabbing Gerhart. He got the guy most deemed as a power back. Gerhart has been battling an injury the whole year so far.


If anything, I would say if you want to be mad at someone, I would get mad at our Strength and Conditioning Staff, OL Coach, and our Offensive coordinator.

Gurley is a great prospect, but he is a running back. It's a passing league and every single asset should go towards stopping the opposing QB and protecting ours. We should look no further than the teams in our division and see how they have fared. Foster has been great (UDFA, btw), but where has he gotten them and now they're paying him a ton. CJ2K had some great seasons that got them nowhere and then they paid him and now he is what he is. Then there is TRich. Running backs have such a short self life, just not worth it. Then if they turn out to what you hope they are, you're gonna have to spend a pretty penny to keep him. Plus, you can find them anywhere. Look no further to the leader rookie rushers this year. Both UDFAs.

They are a run first team, but have the weapons for passing as well. Look at the past winners. RBs play a very important role.

Most of these RBs are very good in the running game.

I'll give you the chiefs, eagles, seahwaks and maybe packers, because he was a rookie but he played very well.


The rest of the guys are not premier players, gore used to be but he's pretty old now and limited.


Its just not that important anymore. How has it worked out for Minnesota?


The biggest issue for the jaguars right now on the offensive side of the ball is the line. The run blocking almost doesn't even exist.


I think the drop in play from gurley to storm isn't big enough to spend a 1st rounder on when we have so many other needs.


Right now the scenario I envision is a trade down and possibly trade ups but the jaguars could get a combo of one of the better linebackers and a guy like Cody prewitt. Its early to say but gurley is a luxury.

I don't believe we'll draft Gurley (but then I didn’t believe we'd draft Bortles either, and that has turned out alright) but there is definitely an argument for doing it.


Its a real area of weakness for us at the moment and he appears to be a player who (like Bortles) could be a difference-maker. I think this team is very short of difference-makers. In fact I think we only have one. Maybe there are decent defensive players we can pick up in the 2nd or 3rd rounds ?


I would be worried that with our O line as it is, even he would struggle (just look at McCoy's early season struggles behind a depleted line at Philly). And you could argue that our defence is a bigger area of need. Maybe we should pick up a serviceable RB in the 2nd or 3rd rounds instead.


Of course, who knows what will happen between now and next spring. Storm Johnson might start putting up some decent figures with the help of an improved offensive line. Our defense might start to click. A defensive end might become available who is unmissable.


But at this stage I don't think it would be a disaster (or a sackable offence) to pick Gurley.

Gurley is a great player, but I believe you can get good running backs later in the draft like Duke Johnson, TJ Yeldon, Mike Davis, or Melvin Gordon.  Derrick Henry the next year will be every bit as good as Gurley as well.

 

I believe we need to load up on oline and linebacker and capitalize on the depth of running backs in the draft later on and maybe grab another in free agency.

There isn't many quality OL players this draft as in the past. I'd rather get another star for offense, fix some defensive holes, and the following year get more OL. The top rated OL are RT's. Defense is very important this draft as there is a lot of players coming out.

youre clearly one of those people that wont be happy unless we draft the 1 player that you want. you have to realize the chances of that happening even if the jaguars needed a running back as badly as you make it out to be are very low.

 

take into consideration what i was saying earlier, and its just very unlikely. dont get your hopes up dude.

i agree with a lot of what you said but 2 things, i think henry is pretty overrated, his style wont transition to the NFL as well and he is nowhere near as talented as gurley.

 

but i just dont think the jaguars need a runningback from the draft. storm needs to get a shot and there will be complimentary backs in FA.

I think we'll know a lot more about him when he's the primary feature back next year.  He does have a lot of Trent Richardson in him, but then again, I was very high on Richardson as well.

 

Storm is not an NFL starter.  He runs a little like Fred Taylor, except without the same size, speed, strength, or talent in general.
