Quote:No. You can't recognize sarcasm, or even humor, so don't even bother commenting on this... Trust me, I was there. It was funny. The Steelers fans  around me thought it was funny. It's simply a bit of PC nonsense...
Agreed.  It was no more offensive than the SNL skit on Ebola the night before.  It's been blown out of proportion by the politically correct police.
I didn't know about it until reading this thread, so I Googled it to see what all the fuss was about. Was it in bad taste? Sure it was.... but comedy tends to lean towards the dark side at times and I think this is being blown way out of proportion.

Goodell, please suspend Jaxson de Ville indefinitely.  This will not be tolerated.

@JagsNGeorgia ... are Aids, Cancer, and Leukemia jokes ok as well?  .... just playing devil's advocate here for the sake of discussion -- not attempting to be the PC Police.

I think the issue with the Cold/Flu route is the fact that your chance of dying from a cold is probably 0.0001% whereas Ebola, Cancer, Aids, and Leukemia is significantly higher.

And the pussification of the world continues apace.
I've heard people say it was in poor taste. I've heard people say he shouldn't have done it. I've heard many say it was funny. I have yet to hear anyone say, "I saw it and was offended."

This seems to be my theme of the week, but can't we wait and see if the fans actually have a problem with it before we act? I'm tired of kneejerk reactions and "staying on top of the situation." Take your time, get it right, and then decide on your response. Lamping's apology angered me and made me lose respect for the Jaguars' front office.

I have trouble telling them apart.
Quote:I hate to say it but this is the kind of thing that will get somebody canned in today's day. I wish it wasn't true, and I love Jaxon. But I wouldn't be surprised to see him get fired at the end of the year or within the next couple of weeks depending on how this develops.

I doubt it.

So you can tell someone not to comment on this because they have a different opinion from you?
Ironically, Jaxson has some "history" with the Steelers. Bill Cowher hated him and had a cameraman watching him to try and catch him doing something he shouldn't. If I remember correctly, Cowher filed a complaint about Jaxson.

I thought it was mildly funny, not nearly as funny as wiping his arm pits and rear end with the Terrible Towel. Even most of the Steeler fans were laughing at that.

I know the virus causes a horrific, terribly painful death and for the afflicted and their families I am truly sorry,  but the more I hear it I can't help thinking that EBOLA is just one of those funny sounding words. kind of like booger, herpes, [BAD WORD REMOVED] or fecal.  I apologize in advance if I offended anyone with excessive rhino mucus build-up, open viral sores of the lips or genitals, flatulence, or any sort of elimination disorder.

**edit- FYI, the 4 letter word for flatulence is apparently bad.

hahaha Africans are dying lol!11 Good one Jaxon.

There was apparently an ebola skit on SNL the night before the game, anyone see the campaign to shut them down yet?

Personally I love dark humor. The Jags are trying to have a family friendly stadium so maybe not the best place for that joke, but I have yet to hear from someone that was offended by it.

For those comparing to other diseases, locality has to be taken into consideration. The joke was intended for those in the stadium. What are the odds someone in the stadium would have personal experience with ebola so that the joke caused them emotional distress? The odds would be much higher for some diseases, lower for others. The prospect that someone might be hurt from the joke is what makes it not funny. So yes, ebola was funny in that context while AIDS, cancer, and some others wouldn't be.

yawn...  Mountains and mole hills...  This is a molehill, heck, it's not even that.  It's an ant hill

Bad taste?   Yes.

Funny?   A little.

A petty sidebar being made into a headline?  Abso-frickin-lutely.

Family friendly... That's what I was told by a Moderator when I typed a word that was deemed "not family friendly", although it's said on the radio and t.v. regularly. And then I hear our radio spot.. you know.. the one with the phone sex operator? Hey, if that doesn't scream family values, I don't know what does !
Silly thing is Jaxxson did his "Save the Tatas" bit earlier in the game. Everybody seems to have forgotten about that. Raising awareness for the fight against breast cancer, yet he's being vilified over a Terrible Towel/Ebola sign?

Save the ta-ta's... Now THAT'S funny !!

Pretty much my thoughts on this, only I changed the part in bold above to reflect my opinion.

Not a family friendly stadium per se (see Clevelander nightclub thread in sideline) but Jaxson's joke wasn't limited to an area that doesn't cater to the family crowd - and therefore was a bit over the line in the eyes of the NFL. Especially since the NFL's PR department is currently in super "red -alert -defcon- five -saving- face -mode."
