It has happened many times including last Thursday night: an unranked team defeated the #2 ranked team. Why is being ranked #2 a bad thing until December, when all of the games are conference championships and bowls except ArmyNavy? Let's evaluate this and come up with theories for the amazing phenomenon.
The team to do it this year was Arizona. Oregon was #2 not only at the time, but most or all of 2014. Sure, both teams are in the Pacific 12, but it is not like a rivalry game and they are in different divisions. Marcus Mariota seems to be hailed as the best quarterback in the FBS right now. So what gives?
