Would it have been nice to bring back Coughlin? Sure, but at his age he was always likely to be a short term option. In this role he should be able to continue longer and it will be less pressure on him (potentially). He gets to help shape this team along with a GM that has put together a talented roster and has a solid head coach to hopefully get the most out of this team. Fingers crossed this trio gets it done.

With Coughlin the new VP, I think Dave and Marrone have one year to show real improvement or uncle Tom gonna blow it up

What kind of role will Caldwell truly have? Theres no way you hire Coughlin without giving him full control of personnel decisions. Atleast, final say.

I said on the onset of this search: Either bring Coughlin as the HC, or don't bring him in at all. This news is as bad as the Marrone hire. 

 

Coughlin should be HC and GM.
