Rich Rod is now 5-0 @ Arizona and they are just coming off of a win @ Oregon.
Remind me once again whey Michigan got rid of this guy? His system takes an entire recruiting cycle to get the right people in place. I know he had a violation for illegal scrimmages but C'mon .... really? DUDE CAN COACH !!
Warmer climate kids run outside all day during the year = fast and lean
Colder climate kids stay in during the winter and lift weights = big and powerful
This is me attempting to make a joke
As you know, that was the mentality in the 70's when recruiting was more regional. Looking back, he probably needed more time at Michigan -- imagine the Michigan / OSU rivalry with Rich Rod vs Urban. Definitely not the ole 3 yards and a cloud of dust.
Oh well !!
Michigan's defense sucked the whole time Rich was there. They ran a 3-3-5 scheme instead of the traditional 4-3-4 or 3-4-4. I assume that had something to do with it.
Denard Robinson seemed to be the entire offense sometimes. I think one year he was there no Wolverines were drafted.
I think the problem with Michigan was they had a roster built to play in a pro style. They had recruits that were better suited to play a pro style offense, and that's not what he does. So his first recruiting class was a bit weak due to the major change in philosophy and change in personnel to run what he wanted to run. He just never had time to get enough recruiting classes under his belt. Arizona, OTOH, was already running a system similar to what he runs. The personnel was already there, he just had to add to it.
Michigan had Lloyd Carr's players playing in a spread.

If that's not a recipe for disaster I don't know what would be.

They just didn't give him enough time and now that compiled with other bad decisions has them looking like the embarrassment they are now.

It was not a recipe for disaster. Why would you think it is when Michigan had so much success with Carr as the coach?

You aren't understanding what I said.
Rich Rod running his system with Carr's players does no equal him running it with his own recruits.
Michigan got impatient and it's showing now.
I do think they should cut ties with Hoke as soon as they can. He's not a fit there and never really has been.

Brady Hoke is #2 after Will Muschamp on the short list of lame duck coaches.

College football, much like the NFL, is a win now business. As much as I agree with you, a lot of irrational fans and athletic directors see differently.

This is something that really bothers me. Michigan was a powerful defense most of my life. That includes the 1960's through the year I would say 2000 or so. Then they just went in a nose dive. Has the northern talent just got that bad.Michigan is a HUGE program.
I know most of the players are from the south most likely.

I don't think the northern talent is that bad. Michigan State seems to be doing pretty well

That's their downfall.
Of course the NFL is upper echelon athletes and tweaks in positions can usually be done. (You can't force a square peg into a round hole)
But in college they don't have the luxury of a fully loaded roster and like was said earlier, Lloyd carr's players were totally different than what rich rod needed.
I feel like any moderately intelligent person would realize that it would take 2-3 draft classes to start to see results.
Unfortunately these big time powerhouse programs face so much scrutiny and pressure from boosters, they don't necessarily have the luxury of time.
A lot of the programs out of the lime light seem to be rising to success lately and just have a feel good vibe to them.
They're given the time to blossom.

She doesn't understand anything that anyone says.
I also think she is just a really cleverly executed troll though.

LOL I understand a lot of things people say, actually - as long as it is not an attempt to be funny.

OK.....

True Just scrolling through their roster. It's mostly the Midwest, with some Canadians and some players from the south sprinkled in.
Rich Rod sucked at Michigan. Michigan didn't hire Rich Rod's defensive coordinator (Casteel), so Rich Rod decided to completely neglect that side of the ball.
For some perspective, here is how Hoke and Rich Rod did in their first three years with Michigan:
Rich Rod: 3-9 (2-6 in conference)
Rich Rod: 5-7 (1-7 in conference)
Rich Rod: 7-6 (3-5 in conference
Hoke: 11-2 (6-2 in conference)
Hoke: 8-5 (6-2 in conference)
Hoke: 7-6 (3-5 in conference)
In 2010, you would have been on here laughing at Michigan for taking so long to fire Rich Rod because of the dumpster fire Michigan was in. Hindsight is 20/20.
