Quote:That sounds solid to me. How far is Colvin in his recovery? I know the plan is next season but any chance we see him this year?

The plan is after Week 7 this year.
Quote:It is never OK to say that about a player who only stepped on the field because a teammate was concussed. I can't remember seeing McCray before the Chargers game. If he was really better than Dwayne Gratz, he would be the guy witn a concussion now.
So Trent Green was better than Kurt Warner, then?

McCray has shown more in coverage than Gratz this year. Why has Gratz plateaued and stumbled onto the down side of the hill? No idea, but he has, and McCray has made the most of it.

It seems to me that they let Gratz play more man and more press last year. He hasn't adjusted well to all of the softer zone this year. Correct me if I'm wrong but I've seen corners playing back from the LOS this year more often and also releasing receivers to the safeties more frequently.

I havent tracked the types of coverage or kept notes or anything - but this is the impression I'm left with. Anyone else notice that?

Hopefully McCray will grasp his responsibilities in the softer zone coverage a bit better.
The good thing about this is that it looks to be the "taking advantage of opportunities" mentality.  McCray hasn't done much of anything during the regular season, but I can remember him this preseason and last preseason playing pretty well when he was on the field.  The simple fact that he was the first to come in after Gratz says something.  If you look at the TD over him last week, that play actually showed a whole lot of positives about him.  Sure it was a TD, but he couldn't have been in a better position.  He was step for step and Rivers put the ball in the only spot that would have been a TD.  I'm not saying he should start over Gratz if Gratz is healthy at this point, but it'll be interesting to see how well he plays if Gratz is held out in the concussion program.

Like what?
Running step for step with the receiver, making a play that was just fingertips from being a PBU, maintaining eye contact with the ball AND receiver.  I didn't notice his play the whole game, but McCray did everything he could short of tackling the receiver to break it up.

Agreed. That was really good coverage on that play.

Unfortunately it was a better pass. Like a really really good pass.
True.  One maybe only Peyton, Brees, Rogers, and Rivers makes... :/

Quote:The team envisions putting McCray out there opposite Colvin when he gets on the field, putting Gratz in as the nickel.

Has this been officially reported?
I always liked what I saw from McCray last year. Did he do something, that I forgot about, that got him in the dog house?

He only filled in when Ball was hurt. So - no doghouse - just back to prior place on depth chart.

The problem with judging a player based on a little more than three quarters of play is he can be inconsistent. Some guys have one good game and are terrible the next.  Did you really think people knew after one game Kurt Warner was going to be the NFL MVP? Probably not.

McCray was a step behind Floyd. (Floyd isn't a burner, either)

Also, How does one maintain eye contact with the ball AND the receiver? Chameleon eyes?

It was good coverage. You're reaching.

McCray was reaching and he still came up a yard short.
If you rewatch it, it really was just a good timed pass by Rivers. You couldn't ask for better coverage from a corner there.

Floyd is 6'5 225 and runs a 4.45. Yeah, hes a burner. But okay then....
You know I thought our secondary was overall pretty good going into this year. I found out quickly that the reason was last year everyone could run at will on us. Why pass? I know we need a Free Safety and the rest are really interviewing for a job.

By the way none have passed the test.

Tell me more about McCray's chameleon eyes.
