Quote:Negatory. Players signed off another team's PS can be waived at any time, including five minutes after they're signed. Three weeks of pay is guaranteed, not three weeks of play.
Interesting. You are correct. Seems like an ineffective way of preventing the poaching of PS players from other rosters -- but I guess that wasn't the point of the rule as I originally thought.
So we may indeed see King released this week to make room for Ace I suppose.
I imagine the rule is there more to protect the PS player than keep them from being poached. How much would it suck to be signed off the practice squad on Saturday, waived on Monday, then told on Tuesday by your old team that they've already filled your spot? With a three-week guarantee of pay, there's at least some buffer to prevent that sort of thing from completely screwing a rookie.
I still tend to believe that Brown would be waived over King. The team knows what they have in Brown: a small, slow WR who can't catch or field punts effectively. King's got size and speed on Brown, and if nothing else, seems like the type of guy who can develop into a special teams contributor. Brown would then become the Todd Bouman of the receiving corps, only a phone call away if injuries or further suspensions strike.

I thought the rule was they had to stay on the active roster for 3 weeks. You are correct.

I only want Ace back for special teams. He's one of those "special" special teamers.

You will like having him on offense Sunday if Cecil Shorts and/or Marqise Lee can't play. He would be an upgrade over Mike Brown.
As far as I can tell, Lee apparently is only going to practice on Friday but more likely to play than Shorts.
How is Mike Brown still here? Injuries and lack of bodies I suppose. I don't have anything against the guy but he's a short and slow WR that has trouble catching the football. He provides no value to the return game.
I'm looking forward to getting Ace back on punt returns. He's no Hester but he's an immediate upgrade over what we've been using.

Obiviously the reason is injuries. Cecil Shorts missed the first two games. Marqise Lee missed the last game and will be out this week too. Allen Robinson started the year with an injury. Allen Hurns is playing hurt. There is no way they can get rid of their short, slow, can't-catch-a-pass wide receiver when the starters are either injured or suspended.
Fortunately we got Ace Sanders back, so punt returns will instantly get better. But with Lee out and Shorts doubtful, we still need Brown on offense.
Would like to see how King would do in a game situation. Mike Brown just has dropped too many balls for us to ever be comfortable with him, I doubt he'd be poached off our squad if he was waived.
Is Brown ahead of King because he is more familiar with the team and the playbook ? With an offense full of rookies that might be a good thing.
Quote:Jodran Todman will continue to return kickoffs, of course.
I was really impressed with his play last Sunday. Either the chargers special teams isn't really good or he's finally found his groove.
