I watched him closely today.  He's not a top line pass rusher.  He doesn't get consistent pressure.  The frustrating thing is that as the op pointed out, the kid has the athleticism...  he's just down the middle too often.

Branch isn't an all-star but I wouldn't say he "sucks." As a rotational d-lineman he's serviceable enough. Can probably be upgraded, but until then he's low on the list of guys I have an issue with on the defense.

That penalty call on him was bogus. Should have been offsetting at worst.

Clemens is over 30 and was cut from another team a few months ago.


Branch is a top 40 pick and is young. Expectations are different. Get over it.

Not really - expectation for Branch was to be cut last offseason.

 

And this GM and coaching staff have been quick to cut anyone that isn't part of their regime.

 

He earned a roster spot and actually made some plays last year.  He's still not a starter, but he's doing the best he can.  He's done more than Clemons.

 

Now, does he "suck"?  No, I don't think he does.  I think he's an average DE.

 

He definitely isn't bad enough to start a thread in the middle of the game about how terrible he is.

 

But that's just my opinion.

Don't see a problem with Branch, he's getting production I don't care how he's getting it. 

Dude is making plays. Where on earth do you bash probably the most consistent pass rusher?

Fair enough and a far more articulate reply than earlier.


I just make a point of watching him because I had high hopes last year, and it is just embarrassingly sad how inept he is play after play.


You can say he isn't a starter all you want, he is on the field constantly.


He is very poor at his job.

I think it's a mistake to watch 1 person.... Just watch the game.

 

If you spent every single play watching SenDerrick Marks, he'd probably look nearly as inept as Branch does.

 

Most of the time even all-pro defensive ends don't do anything.  They just get enough pressure to change a pass or get the sack 1-2 times a game (out of dozens and dozens of plays)....

 

He wasn't good today, I agree. 

 

Was he a weak link on our defense?  Definitely not, at least from my perspective. 

 

By far our weakest link is our secondary and I think our defensive scheme.  We need to play more press and man coverage IMO.

Coming from the guy who sticks up for that waste of space tyson alualu.
