Not really a beginner to PC gaming per se but it's been a long time since I've actually done any serious gaming (think 10 years) so thought I'd approach it as a beginner. Recently I got a new PC freshly equipped with a GTX 1060 and have been looking at a few games like Doom, Call of Duty, etc, any advice for a good game to get back into it?  Single player game options would probably be good.  Any advice?

I hear the new Doom is good. I'd avoid CoD unless you can get Modern Warfare on sale. Battefield 1 is really nice though I've never been drawn to the BF franchise. Try to branch out a little too; Far Cry 3 maybe? A few Ezio based games from Assassin's Creed.

Also; get Steam.

Video games have their own sub-forum now?  Interesting.  I did Battlefield Vietnam back in the day when it first came out, seemed OK but so many of the FPS games today seem really intricate.  Just ordered DOOM 2016 so we'll see how it goes.

With a 1060, 3GB or 6GB version, you can handle Far Cry 4 pretty easily. I heartily recommend it. It's a craftier, smarter FPS, and the story and characters are great.

Best FPS for a beginner?  Goldeneye.

Best PC FPS for a beginner?  No clue.

I'm a beginner and I enjoy BF1 still.

Halo is always a good start that's on PC. I'm a console gamer myself, got my real FPS start with Goldeneye.

Halo is very user friendly, especially if you're just playing single player.
I haven't really enjoyed a COD game in a long time, or really been drawn to FPS in a while either.  People seem to like the battlefields all pretty well.

Half-Life and Portal series are my recommendations

Goldeneye N64
Overwatch

To be honest, the N64 version is HORRIBLE for a beginner. The controls are so clunky and weird.
