i know monroe just had a fluke injury, but this move to ship away a 27 year old number 8 pick for a couple of ham sandwiches has to be the dumbest move yet by Caldwell. Monroe is a solid Left tackle graded in the top ten week after week and those do not come easily. it seems caldwell was so in love with an unproven rookie he disrupted our line and made it weaker. At least hold out for a 2 and a 3 to pick up quality guards. instead we have to start shopping in FA for a mediocre beadles.

what could have been a solid left side is now in training with little indication Joeckel will be half the player Monroe is/was. in my opinion this has been the most idiotic move Caldwell has made and it still makes no logical sense. we got a 4 and a 5 for a solid young left tackle.

anybody think we got a fair trade or is Baltimore still laughing at the Jags?

Really?  This ship sailed last season, the dead horse was beat to death, and the fat lady sung.  It's done.

Monroe struggled as a rookie as well and his contract was up.  He wasn't gettin re-signed.

/thread.

We should get together and have a riot in the streets of downtown Jacksonville. Call for Caldwell's head and start fresh again. Clearly the Monroe move completely dismantled our team and they've lost all hope and motivation since it happened.

well the ship may have sailed, but nobody knew if monroe was washed up and we did not know his replacements potential and the after effects. seems reasonable to revisit the move after a year.

The 2 OT that went 1,2 in the 2013 draft are looking like busts.  Fooled all the experts

Who ever thought monroe was washed up?  He was just finishing his rookie contract.  Nothing's changed since the trade, he is who he is and Joekel is taking his lumps.  Just as monroe did.  Was it the right move?  I don't know, but i do now it's been beat to death around here.

Revisit this in a couple years.  They are green OTs, it's not suprising.
So you start a thread about a player traded away a year ago and is about to miss a month of the season with an injury.

I don't see the point in rehashing this. However, at the time of the trade, that season, Monroe didn't play like a top 10 LT but in fact a bottom 10 LT. I don't blame them for trading him away. I wouldn't have signed him either. In hindsight was it a bad move? Yes. As my brother constantly says, "Live with it. Deal with it. Move on."

Monroe wasn't resigning anyways.

again, monroe was gonna leave after that year whether he was traded or not.
I didn't like the move either but as Elsa from frozen would say

"Let it go, let it go!"

Joeckel has looked better than Monroe did as a rookie in his starts.  Considerably better.  Obviously I would have to see it graded out to prove it but based on the eye test Luke's play has been superior to Monroe's during the same time span of their career.

In addition, Monroe was gone.  He was in the last year of his contract.  To get anything for trading a player who was nothing more than a 3/4 season rental for the Ravens (unless he signed a new contract) was actually a good move.

Dangit man, why would you do that to me!!! Lol, my daughter's favorite movie and she sings that song in the car everywhere we go.  She's not even 2 yet so the only words she knows is "Let it go, let it go!" over and over and over again!

Not sure if this is true or not, i generally don't focus on OT play when watching games but i do vividly remember Monroe's first game against the colts.  He was absolutely embarrased by Freeney, it was hard to watch!
Meh.

I wasn't happy with the move at first but realizing he probably wasn't going to re-sign anyway I'm ok with it now. I believe Joeckel has the bigger upside.

haha freaking Gator Country played it this morning on the drive to work as a joke and I can't get the damn thing out of my head! My 4 year old ALL she talks about is that movie and that song.

If i said my daughter has watched it 50 times, i'd guess i'm underestimating the truth.  Terrible.
I keep hearing an excuse that Monroe was gone, his contract was up. Good players get new contracts, and there is always a franchise tag, so there is no hard factual evidence he could not be resigned. The fact is we had two left tackles which seemed to play into it more than money.

I realize everyone is on a buzz about our new qb and any negativity is frowned on at this time. However one of the reasons given on Bortles starting was the Jags did not want to start Bortles behind this porous OL, and as a unit allows our new FA RB 2 yards a carry. We can't seperate the moves made last year, and the lack of moves, from the success our new backfield will be having the rest of this years season. The topic and trade when made may have faced criticism or applause, its effect is still very much in play.
