Speaking of...is Heineken an over rated beer? grolsch? What's popular there? IMO, Belgians make some tasty brew, which I'm guessing is popular there?

You'll get a different answer with every person you ask and what region you're in. I personally don't like Grolsch, I drink mostly Heineken, Brand and Warsteiner. Belgian beers are nice but are usually reserved for a certain crowd and not drunk as your standard Friday night in a bar beer.

You're right. Different tastes. There are some who drink to drink, get a buzz. Then some like to enjoy something different. But you hear all kinds of things. For instance that Warsteiner was Germany's PBR. Not so? I get the Belgian beer as well. Something with dinner...before, after , during. But not the Friday night bar thing.

Ever hear of Rodenbach sour? That's a good one.
I've had a couple of different Belgian beers.  Both were high alcohol content and very fruity and flowery.  Interesting, but not something I would drink regularly.

Tried any of the ones brewed by the monks ?

Chimay is pretty decent. Duvel. The wheat beers like Hoegaarden aren't too strong and not bad.

But yeah, they ain't the tailgating, slam em down variety.

Chimay was one of the beers I tried.  Pretty foofoo, but with a decent kick.

I'm not sure how Warsteiner is regarded in Germany though I'm pretty sure it's not considering to be a top of the line beer. I like it because it's pretty smooth, even when you're sober. Some beers taste bloody rank when you have your first one of the day.
Quote:Hit ignore. You step into a conversation about beer, just some guy talk, and try some smart quips. Finish munching on your green meat and carpet and we can finish our beer talk.

TMD in disguise is unbecoming of you. Find another thread. Be happy.

Guy talk? My guess is that you lack the proper equipment for guy talk.. You're such an apparatus ..
Quote:Well, I still have Sam Adams.

I love their Oktoberfest and Winter Lager.  They also have one called Noble Pils that used to be their spring seasonal, but it is available all year in 6 pack form now.  Good Stuff

Winter Lager is great, imo. I wonder how long Sam Adams will be considered a craft brew entity? Their getting up there in barrels produced.

How can you not like a Sam A? There truly is something for everyone. Their Porch Rocker is a pretty good summer beer.

Next month European St in conjunction with Bold City will have their annual Oktoberfest and BC anniversary. Awesome last year/

Heard that Jaxtoberfest wasnt that good, but cant speak from experience

I drink these on occasion.

You're in Cali?  Whats popular there? Dumb question I guess, depending on where you are, etc.

Not a dumb question at all.

The most popular beers here are Coors Light, Bud Light and Corona. Blue Moon used to be really popular but I don't see it as much anymore.

As far as craft type beers, Sam Adams is always around. Firestone Walker is a brewery from Paso Robles, Ca and they are becoming really really popular here. Their 805 beer is probably in every bar in Fresno, although I think it is actually rtheir worst beer. Lagunitas, from the East Bay area, is another really popular brand around here. Their thing is IPAs which are the trendy thing to drink in Ca right now. North Coast Brewing from Fort Bragg, Ca is another one that I'm starting to see around a bit more that I really like a lot. They make an excellent Pilsner called Scrimshaw.

Really though, there are so many craft breweries in Ca right now, the choices are a little staggering. I think we have 5 or so breweries just in Fresno, although none of them are as successful as the bigger ones to the North and South.

Yea Blue Moon came out of nowhere a decade or so ago, seemed to be wildly popular for a couple years and then seemingly dropped off the face of the earth. I was never a big fan of it, but I know a lot of people who used to swear by it

Lots of ladies seemed to like it here but it has been effectively replaced by Shock Top, which is about as equally good IMO. Lots of citrus flavor.
