Her aunt saying she'd never "sleep with a black boy."

Even though her BF at the time was a black guy.

So the girl is racist, or the aunt is. I am confused...
Funny how ESPN is leaving out the part about the extortion attempt. I guess when it doesn't fit their agenda...

Because right now it's only his lawyer saying that it happened. That doesn't make it the truth. There has to be more proof then just him saying it.

Until there's actual proof, it's just gossip...that's why.
Bchbunnie4, I agree in principle. But if you think ESPN generally doesn't report unconfirmed stories . . . let's just say I think you're giving them too much credit. If they wanted to cover it the headline would read "Winston lawyer ACCUSES alleged victim of going after money." They run stories like that all the time where all they have to do is confirm someone accused someone else and then go with it.

This. They run stories all the time that come from "sources." They aren't reporting this because they it doesn't fit their agenda.

I guarantee if TMZ reported Winston wanted $7mil, ESPN would have been all over it like flies on crap.

You don't think that the only source being his lawyers makes it less credible than just some other "unnamed" source?

I'd say that if the lawyer can't confirm the request then it'll make him look bad.  Why risk it?
I think that since the accusation is written in correspondence between himself and FSU that he's going to stand behind it. The accuser's attorney has said she'll respond Thursday. If it didn't happen at all I don't think she'd wait to flat out deny it, but anything's possible.

The timing of this story is just a little strange.  It's coming right after the game he was suspended for, so it's an obvious attempt to repair his image.  Which seems petty at this point.

But the timing of all the other allegations wasn't strange? Amirite?
Here is the 13-page letter if anyone cares to read it.

Perfect.

What's funny to me about this is that FSU is going through with this Title IX investigation when it's their own policy to not investigate claims of sexual harassment that are more than a year old. The school doesn't even know their own policy.

Although this shouldn't shock me because our AD doesn't even know the name of the freaking band.
Getting a little sticky

A lawyer representing the woman who accused Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston of rape released a statement Wednesday afternoon saying that Winston’s attorney offered to pay the alleged victim to stay silent about the incident. This statement contradicts what Winston’s attorney, David Cornwell, wrote in a letter to Florida State that surfaced on TMZ Wednesday morning.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, John Clune, a Title IX lawyer who represents the alleged victim, issued the statement in response to Cornwell’s claim that Patricia Carroll, a lawyer for the accuser, asked for $7 million to “never hear from (the accuser) or (Carroll) again – in the press or anywhere.”

The lengthy statement says that Cornwell leaked the letter to TMZ himself “at a time when Mr. Winston is suffering from the negative attention of his own continuing misconduct of last week.”

In reference to Florida State’s continuing Title IX investigation into the alleged incident from December 2012, Clune also says “Cornwell appears to know that Mr. Winston is about to be charged by Florida State with sexual assault and this letter seems to be his final attempt to prevent FSU from complying with federal law.”

Clune then goes on to say that it was Cornwell, not Carroll – the accuser’s former counsel – who discussed “paying off” the accuser.

The statement continues:

Quote:“Patricia Carroll didn’t even know who David Cornwell was until he called. Mr. Cornwell then himself flew down from Atlanta to negotiate with Ms. Carroll. Settlement discussions were immediately unproductive as Cornwell was crude and insulting going so far as to say ‘your client likes to [expletive] football players.’ When told that the client’s main concern was not money but that Winston be held accountable for his actions, Cornwell threatened to sue our client and her parents for civil racketeering in an effort to intimidate them into staying quiet."
Clune goes on to say that Cornwell misrepresented the timeline in which the accuser reported the incident.

Quote:“Mr. Cornwell additionally and inaccurately portrays that our client chose to file a complaint ‘two years later.’ The truth is that the University approached our client in October of 2013 and asked her for the first time whether she would cooperate with disciplinary charges against Mr. Winston after the school received a second report of sexual misconduct by another woman.”
After a 11-month delay in the case, Winston was never charged due to a lack of evidence.

Florida State interviewed Winston in January as a part of the ongoing Title IX investigation. Clune said previously that the woman was interviewed by FSU in August and that he expected FSU to bring code of conduct charges up against the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback.

Meanwhile, Cornwell maintains that Winston will continue to cooperate with the investigation and that he “looks forward to clearing his n

He said - she said...lawyer addition. None of it means anything unless they can back it up.
Title IV people are involved. If there is anything to this I would say its by this Friday. If not by then I believe its over. FSU must protect itself. If they have done anything wrong in this you will see a move to suspend him.If not move on!

Could be wrong here, but doesn't law trump the schools policy?
At this point neither side can be trusted unless they have something to back their claim up. I wouldn't be shocked if Winston's side offered up some money to keep them quiet, nor would I be surprised if the girls attorneys asked for money to keep quiet.

If some of what Jameis's lawyer said is true, his mouth is as dirty as his.  What a crazy back and forth PR nightmare for these lawyers.

Would you hire Jameis's lawyer after this?
