Very uncharacteristic of him, but I imagine he won't be there long.

To be fair, I don't blame him. Jerry Jones should know better than to throw a cornerback under the bus in the media. There's very few worse feelings in football than being beaten as a cornerback, but throwing him down in the media is an unnecessary insult to injury.

I think Claiborne is one of those guys that needs a player's coach to do well, otherwise he just gets frustrated with himself and learns nothing.

Didn't he score a 2 on the Wonderlic?
Admittedly I haven't followed him much other than knowing he's been banged up a lot during his career. That said he must've really been struggling to have been benched on that defense.

He got beat badly against the Rams. But some guys just manufacture pressure on themselves to do better and sometimes they aren't able to keep up with it. I feel like Claiborne is one of those guys.

Right now, I'd honestly trade a 4th or 5th rounder for him, mostly because I don't think he's a bad player, just a guy who has completely folded under the pressure of his draft position and needs a new start.

That's entirely too much. Jerry Jones wouldn't do it anyway as he's not a person who's going to admit he was wrong.

How is that too much? Claiborne is only two years removed from going #6 in the draft from a college that perennially produces top defensive backs.

Considering he's played less than two seasons worth of games, we don't know what he'll turn out to be, even if he is starting slow.

I can see someone thinking a 4th rounder is a little steep, considering the Jaguars are bad enough that it's really just a late 3rd rounder, but you aren't going to produce better potential with a 5th round draft pick. I guarantee it.

No one's going to miss that 5th rounder even if he busts out in Jacksonville, and especially not if he meets expectations.

Think it was a 4.
Don't we have Colvin for next year that we already spent a 4th on... if we spent a 5th on morris, that would be 3rd 4th and 5th we have spent on cbs in the last 2 years

We spent a 4th (sanders), a 2nd and another 2nd on wide receivers this year. Ball is not that young, Gratz is still unproven, and Colvin is a big ? after his injury. If you think Claiborne can be salvaged by moving to a more aggressive press scheme like he played in college (and be able to play like a 6th pick of the draft should), then you make that deal.
Some people actually said this guy was better than Patrick Peterson coming out of LSU... I never saw it, personally, and was glad we didn't end up with him. That being said, I'm not sure if Dallas runs a man coverage scheme or a more zone.. if they run more man coverage, he may benefit going to a team that runs more zone.

That was on his make-up test.

"IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys first-round draft pick Morris Claiborne said he pretty much blew off the Wonderlic test at the NFL scouting combine, resulting in what has been reported as a single-digit score.

The former LSU defensive back, selected sixth overall Thursday night, told reporters that he didn't take the test seriously.

"I mean, I looked on the test and wasn't nothing on the test that came with football, so I pretty much blew the test off," Claiborne said.

The Wonderlic consists of 50 questions that must be answered in 12 minutes. Scores on the Wonderlic are kept confidential by the league. But the prospects' scores -- especially low scores -- occasionally have been leaked to the media, despite commissioner Roger Goodell warning teams of "significant discipline" if they're caught disclosing results.

Claiborne reportedly had a score of 4, the lowest reported score in a dozen years. The average score for NFL prospects is 21.

When asked Thursday if he regretted not taking the test more seriously, Claiborne said he did.

"If I knew there was going to be this much heat about it ... Yeah," Claiborne said.

Claiborne said he knew the test score would not affect his draft stock, but he admitted that he was bothered by some of the public mocking he endured after the score was reported.

"When it came out, some of the things that were said ... I'm human, so I had a problem with some of it, but I didn't let that get me down," Claiborne said. "I know what type of person I am. I know that test doesn't reflect on how I learn or what type of a person I am."

LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis made it a point to publicly defend Claiborne's football intelligence after the Wonderlic score was reported.

"I've heard what's out there about that test, but I also know the kid, who he is and what he did for us," Chavis told ESPN.com's Chris Low. "We run a very multiple scheme. You don't just line up and play in our scheme. You have to know what's going on and be able to make adjustments.

"You have to be able to think and move and do those things, and let me tell you: I've coached a lot of great players, and Mo Claiborne had no problem picking up anything in our system and doing all the things we wanted him to do."

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Claiborne's low Wonderlic score was "not an issue at all." He praised the cornerback's football instincts and ability to take coaching.

"We talk about the test scores, but we also talk about, 'What is his football IQ?' " coach Jason Garrett said. "He has instincts, he has vision, he has the ability to make plays at his position at an elite level.""
