Haven't really heard anyone talk about this guy but Solomon Thomas could be a sleeper pick for us at 4. A lot of people like Allen and this guy is similar imo. Your more traditional 4-3 DE or 5 tech in a 3-4, and not "edge" guy. Guy was dominant this year and I guy I think could fly up the draft boards come combine. Could play DE or move in side on passing downs alot like Jon Allen.

If he's really only 270lbs that's going to hurt him.

How is that going to hurt him? That will help him imo
I have been thinking he would go later and could be a great pick in round 2 or even late 1 with a small trade up. If the hype keeps building that isn't going to happen.
Takk McKinley could sneak up there when he blows up the combine.
Thomas is great though, freaky motor.
How many of these guys "not edge guys" do we need?

if he is an interior rusher and he is 270lbs that is not a good thing.

he is your more tradition DE with his size. Im sure Mike Smith would like that if he becomes our coach more than one of the lighter DE, "edge" guys

he wont be there in the 2nd baring an injury or some off the field issue comes up between now and then

again, if his strength is interior rushing that's nota good thing.
I don't think you realize how dominant Jon Allen is. I really think that many people are turned off by Allen as a top 5 pick because he doesn't play for a school with a futuristic Nike look, and his name isn't something unique like Ezekius Dragonhammer. Just like Williams two years ago. I think Jags fans should salivating over the opportunity to have a player like Jon Allen next year. I might be pulling for a Jackson Allen Poe Lineup. Teams will gain yards. NEVERMORE
Watch Allen play a full game or two to see the way he dominates a defensive line and can dismantle the trenches. I love that youtube has full cut-ups for players of full games (not just highlight reels with smoke machines, pre-game dancing in slow motion and overlayed by some obnoxious song). There is a good full game vs USC

I see Aaron Donald. Watch him bull rush the Tackle 5 yards back, keep his head up to watch the QB or Runner. He's very good at maintaining his strength and low center and looking for the action of the play. That's one of the first things I look for in a premium DL prospect. Any guys can run full speed with his head down, but Allen shows a level of patience and while keeping his velocity and aggression.
I only peeked at one of Solomon Thomas games for the sake of this thread. I see the Physical traits that are desireable and I think he looks like a 4-3 DE. He doesn't have Allen's strengths and ferocity. Allen is really a better prospect. Something to watch is that Thomas is longer and he plays very sloppy, watch his head looking down into the dirt and extending his hands so far away from his body. That's correctable. muscle memory type of stuff. Stanford seemed to not really play him in an ideal role. He's definitely got some talent but very raw. I would love to add him, idk if he's a fit in the jags scheme depending on what they do.
Exactly. There isn't any other player in this draft comparable to Allen and the only comparable prospects to Allen this decade are Suh and Donald. Allen is damn near unblockable inside and I see him having the same kind of impact at the next level as Donald. To give a sense for how much of a freak Allen is, he is 290lbs+ and bends the edge better than a lot of 250-260 guys. That is insane.

Gerald McCoy was on their level as prospects too.
Some even thought he was better than Suh. He's been an absolute monster for Tampa.
Yea, that last Jaguar win probably took Allen off the table. The only way this doesn't happen is if somehow 2 quarterbacks go in the top 3 and this is very unlikely.

Depends if the new GM/coach combo is sold on Kaepernick as QB in San Fran.
FWIW - Rang/Brugler have Thomas ranked #5 overall at the CBS big board currently.
The ONLY reason the texans are in the playoffs for the last few years is because of their pass rush and this weak division.
I'm all for drafting impactful pass rushers.
Fowler our stand up pass rusher
Ngakoue
And Thomas or Allen as RDE would be awesome

He actually didn't play bad at all, considering he has a weakened O-Line and some pretty "rag tag" receivers.

You might be on to something. The Texans have a beast dline. Once they get Watt back they will be even better.
I would love to have a dline like that. I might hop on the dline train closer to the draft. Right now I'm all about Fournette but I would be ok with Cook.
And I don't care about RB'S being found in rounds 2 or 3.
That can be said about any player. Dak was a 4th rounder. But if they redrafted he would be a 1st rounder.
I would spend a 1st round pick on a RB. Just like Dallas did with Elliot.
