He obviously has a place in this league. I dont see him being the typical #1 but he sure would benefit from having some veteran WR around him. This whole group are just so young

True statement. We have a VERY young group of core players right now and I feel that we cant do nothing but get better. There is talent on this team, they just need time to grow together. If I was DC, I would try to keep this group together, draft a better line, and add effective vets through free agency.
Of all our receivers, Hurns has looked the best. The man gets open..... then again, it's hard to objectively evaluate him because, well...... it's easy to look like an eagle when your flying with turkeys...
Hurns currently leads the team with 186 yards, (to my suprise Allen Robinson is 2nd with 154 yards)
http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/stats/_/name...le-jaguars and I think
Hurns might even lead the league with 26.6 yards per rec. (not sure though)...
with Cecil Shorts III returning if he can stay healthy he might beat out the both of them, but our WR core is much better this year than previous years... with depth..
Quote:I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees this. Hurns is a fundamental receiver and he's beating the man across from him with acquired skills, not talent.
I don't know, man... He sure got behind the Eagles secondary with pure talent. I agree his acquired skills are his bread and butter, but he's been able to hit that last gear, especially on the skinny post or the seam route.
Quote:The unwritten rules for WRs is that if it hits you in the hands you should catch it. It hit him right in the chest. Even though he had to slightly slow down 98% of the starting WRs in the league makes that catch, especially considering the nearest defender is still 5 yards back. The only concern is between Hurns and the ball.

He'll get better from it as I'm sure it was a learning experience for him. I still think he has a real chance to end up as the best WR on this team outside of Blackmon when its all said and done.
Guys, let's not overthink this one. Classic case of being so wide open, you get nervous as the ball approaches you, because you know you are about to score. Any self-respecting middle-school wide receiver is supposed to make that catch.
That said. He still looks like he has the goods.
Let's not forget about ar15. According to
http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/9297/allen-robinson he is catching up in snap totals and already has 12 receptions for 150 yards. That'd be a 60 reception 750+ yard season if it holds up. Given bortles at the helm those numbers should go up.
Rookie receivers rarely have 50 receptions but we have two on pace with a more effective qb taking over.

I think he is still good. He was really running away from this ball. The more I watch this gif, the more I see how badly thrown this ball was. But he still should hae caught it. Could have been nervousness. But he is a steal.
Your joking rite? That ball should have been caught!
Ever since seeing him in preseason I was saying WOW! This guy will be good! I don't know what it is yet, can't put my finger on it, but there is certainly something there.
That ball should have been caught, but I still think he's the best receiver on our team right now. He's had more than his fair share of drops but I don't see anyone else stepping up and making plays nearly as much as him. Bortles to Hurns is going to be fun, I think.
Without him, the Jags have exactly one touchdown this season, 3 games in.
Just sayin'
Hurns is the real deal. He wasn't drafted because he didn't time well. Well I think he put that to rest when he outran the Colts secondary for the TD Sunday. He was pulling away from them. He wasn't drafted because he didn't have any attribute that really jumped out at you, but he broke receiving records at Miami. The U. We're not talking Miami of Ohio here, or Rice, or any small college. We're talking a college that has produced some of the best WRs in the league. And he did it on a team that wasn't anywhere near as talented as the Miami of the past few decades. He has good size (would like to see him add a bit more muscle to his frame to get over 200) and he runs great routes. What I like the most about him is, as good as he's been, he is only going to get better. He's what Mike Sims-Walker should have been, had he not had those devastating knee injuries. I remember everyone raving about Sims-Walker after we drafted him and all the talk about how good he was going to be. Hurns has every bit the ability he had. He just has to stay healthy.
Like you said it's a combination of him knowing the system and playing faster. I also feel he got pushed down the boards because this draft was so deep at wideout. He may went is the 4-5 in another year.
Nonetheless the guy does exactly what he should on the field. Reminds me of a Reggie Wayne type of player. Just gets open and could catch 10 balls a game but still has deep play ability.
Simple answer is he is for real, IF he doesn't get hurt.
Quote:It's obviously a small sample size but I think there's a very real possibility he plays Shorts off the team.
And by that I mean the team will choose to let Shorts shop himself in FA, and depending on the price may or may not re-sign him.
I don't think Hurns affect Shorts, bu Marqis will. Robinson and Hurns can be an ideal 1-2 punch at WR. This opens up the slot at #3 WR for the quick twitch guys like Shorts and Lee

If you go by this quote then you have 3 slot WRs on the team with ace also. I really think Shorts is a great 2. But then again, the way lineups are, WRs are positioned across the board.

How much better could this ball have possibly been thrown?
He's going to be a good one, but i think this board, not specifically this thread alone, is going a bit over board on him. I think he will be a very solid receiver in this league, but i think he has physical limitations that will keep him from being a superstar. The Jerry Rice's just don't happen, well, ever. He is the real deal however, not some preseason wonder child. I think this team is loaded at the WR position for once, and i couldn't be happier. I think either Lee or Robinson, hopefully both, will be our next bona fide star.
My man Hurns is in the center of the pic, looks like the players are starting to follow his lead.
