We have heard the excuses
*but the QB play sucked
*but the time they are on the field
*but but but
The truth is this defense sucks no matter what. They play just as awful when they are fresh as they do throughout the game. Lets go inside the numbers and see where this defense ranks in the NFL.
Total Defense: 32nd
Points per game: 32nd (over 8 points more than the terrible bucs)
Yards allowed: 32nd
Yards per play: 23rd
Allowed 1st dwns: 32nd
3rd dwn pct allwd: 25th
Pen against: 27th
TOP against: 32nd (30 more seconds than the raiders)
That is just atrocious across the board. What happend to Seattle of the south, or Bradley the defensive guru? Why is babich still here?
Well the reality is...
I'm just kidding, they pretty much suck so far.
This better not be a reoccurring thing that happens every season. Team sucks first half of the season and then turns mediocre to pull some wins.
We just have to hope that the players will be trying harder for Bortles and they're sick of losing 40+ points. These players aren't going to get "better" at all. Chris Clemons, Poz, Red, Sen'Derrick, Roy, and all the vets aren't going to get better. The rest of the young guys need to step up and do their job, and then we'll be a good defense.
We are tied with Washington for sacks and lead in total tackles which shows we are getting pressure. It also shows that the

Secondary is awful. One int for no yards.
The entire 2015 offeseason (both FA and the draft) needs to be dedicated to the defensive side of the ball, we're awful on defense.
We need Todd Gurley for the offense and then they can focus on the defense. That kid is too special to give up. :teehee:

The Jaguars are destined for a top 5 pick, there's no way they're taking a RB that high, I don't care how good Gurley is. Give me Lenoard Williams or Randy Gregory.

Yeah, but how many more years on the bottom before we finally make the turn?
I agree. As bad as this defense is, they need add talent on the front 7. Besides, runningbacks are a dime a dozen and you can get great ones in rounds 3-4.
Yeah, you're right. RB's like Fred and MJD are all over the place. We shouldn't get the best RB prospect that is on another level in the SEC. We've always had a franchise RB with huge play-making ability, and I don't thing Gerhart or Drob will live up to that or carry the load. We have the largest cap space, spend the money on the defense. We can afford to get an elite RB. As outstanding as we are on the offense, we need more weapons.
In todays NFL we dont need a stud RB like Gurley.
We do need an upgrade at CB, FS, and MLB.
Probably need more Dline and Oline depth, but a lot of young pieces that we have to see how they pan out.
Branch has looked promising.
I didn't realize it was that bad. The line has been getting pressure which is actually kind of incredible given how the secondary seems to be playing. Hopefully the offense csn start winning more TOP which will mean less exposure to that weakness. I'd like to hear what Gus and Babich say is going wrong back there and how they plan to try to fix it.

It seems like in the past we were assignment sound and suffered from a huge lack of talent. Now it's like a 180, and we have some talent but every crucial play there's a guy out of place or a free runner running straight down the field.

Nice attempt at sarcasm, there's absolutely no need to spend a top 10 pick on a running back; you don't need the second coming of Jim Brown in your backfield to be competitive. If the Jaguars were drafting late in the 1st round I'd be all for it, but that won't be the case. This team needs guys that can protect the passer and guys that can rush the passer, it's obviously early but I expect their first round pick to be an offensive/defensive linemen.

Thats a bad thing
We don't NEED Gurley, but we should WANT him. You have the entire FA to upgrade the defense and spend the money, and then the rest of the draft picks to get whatever we need for the defense. We shouldn't let teams like the Titans or Texans get Gurley. If he ends up being elite in the NFL, would you really want to worry about him being in our division?
Edit: I didn't say draft him in the first round. I'm saying the 3rd if he's still available.

I'm not saying the Jaguars don't want Gurley, any team would, but it's all about value. Would you rather have an elite offensive/defensive lineman or an elite running back. Give me the lineman all day.
They haven't played well, there's no denying that, but I'm not letting the offense off the hook for what they have put the defense through either.
didn't realize the defense was that bad. Bradley needs to just do his job. and get that unit back on the upswing.
