This team finally has a QB that is willing to take risks. Call them rookie mistakes(some were) but we have basically been at the hands of ultra conservative game managers since maybe Leftwich? Even Garrard had a few heavy turnover games and gave up on taking risks. This has been the worst part of the Jaguars offense, that we simply would not trust WRs unless they were open by a mile. Bortles will throw a ball and let his WR try to make a play, even a blanketed WR. While he will have to be reigned in a little in this aspect, this one change will drastically change the way the offense has looked here for the past decade. An interception 40 yards down field is a hell of a lot better than 3 and outs all day long, at least with the long pass there is a chance of something good happening. If Bortles throws 25 interceptions this year I will be happy, that is how you learn what plays you can make and what plays you can't. Get ready for a real team to start showing up soon.
On a side note, good to see Drob finally getting the ball as well. We had the tools and simply refused to use them.
Good QBs takes risks. WRs get better when they start expecting the ball to come. Let them make plays. Attack the field. Give me INTs all day if you gave the WR a chance.

Prozinski hasn't earned that spot on the bench. He should be off the roster.

And with Blake attacking downfield, the running game might get better.teams won't be able to load the box,or he'll burn them
I agree I love the fact he throws the long ball. Too often do teams load the box on this team and dare us to beat them deep. I love to see a QB behind center who has the arm and the courage to make the defense pay for crowding the LOS.
Look at it this way. If he throws it really deep and it gets picked it's like a punt. I rather let it fly and play hard vs the ultra conservative 3 plays and punt formula.

We haven't attacked downfield in like .... UH ... (crickets)...
I really can't imagine anyone having a problem with it at this point.
WHATEVER YOU DO BORTLES, DO NOT "PROTECT THE BALL."
AT ALL COSTS.
(so glad Gus isn't feeding Bortles the "protect the ball" propaganda right now. HE UNDERSTANDS!!! It's a good sign.)
More important than the length of his pass attempts is giving himself a chance to throw it. The rollout that allowed him to throw to the fullback - no way do we gain any yards there with Chad Henne. But obviously Blake Bortles still needs to work on some things to avoid getting sacked in the end zone.
Cobra, Bortles should have protected the football when he got sacked in the end zone. I thought we were lucky to only give up a safety instead of a touchdown there. But you are right about throwing it downfield because risk takers get more first downs.
