Quote:This is why you need to have a veteran receiver out there.  Rookies have a huge learning curve to overcome.  Missing Shorts hurts more than some would admit here.

As far as keeping Bortles out holding this team back, that's debatable.  We don't know how much better this team would perform with him out there, or how that would translate into more wins over the long haul.  As distrustful as some here are now about Caldwell's ability to evaluate talent and bring it here, how can anyone (especially those who are hammering Caldwell in other threads) think that Bortles will magically come in and instantly turn things around and we'll suddenly be a playoff contender?

Last time I checked, he's still a rookie who hasn't really faced anything beyond the vanilla scheme of a fourth preseason game, and backups the rest of the preseason.  If he comes in and he's able to be slightly more effective than Henne, that amounts to what?  5 wins instead of 4 this year?  Yip yip yahoo!

I'm not opposed to getting Bortles in this year, but when I look at the train wreck of a line, the complete lack of a running game, and receivers who don't know up from down, I have to wonder how he's going to be the magic pill that makes this team a contender?

You hit the nail on the head. The answer to your question is people lie to themselves to get their hopes up because they are very angry and frustrated. I think people are in complete denial about this because they just can't wait to see the third overall draft pick play and start winning games agian.

Or maybe Blake is better....

The coaches owe it to the rest of the players busting their collective [BLEEP] to win games. Do you also want to sit Cyprien until the team is good because, you know, he could get hurt.

That can't be.

He's a rookie, no way he can handle himself better than 7 year vet Chad Henne.

Those of us level-headed fans understand that he might not be the "magic pill"...

If we are going to SUCK this year, why not play with our rookie QB - who will make rookie mistakes - and let him learn from them THIS YEAR...

Again, I will refer you to my previous response.
Quote:I don't have a problem with your perception of what the plan is or should look like, I do have a problem with you calling loyal frustrated Jaguar fans "fair weather fans" as you did a couple of pages ago. If the team was winning the message board would reflect it, if the team was competitive the message would reflect it, but that’s not the reality.

That comment wasn't directed at you. Sorry you took offense to it.

I know it wasn't directed at me, it doesn't have to be for me to take offense to it, listen we all want the team to be successful, everyone on this board (in some way or the other) is emotionally/financially invested in this organization. We've suffered through years of awful football, media and fan ridicule/ignorance/misconceptions etc.. the fans of this organization are sick of it as they should be, the product on the field is unacceptable at the professional level where every team has equal resources. To call someone a fair weather fan considering the circumstances surrounding this team is ridiculous; the message board is simply a reflection of this team right now

.
Bradley is starting to sound a lot like JDR after a loss (AKA a game). You can tell he is starting to feel the heat a little bit and is getting to the point of sounding moronic in his support for Henne.

If we can pound on the table just a *little* louder Bradley is sure to hear how displeased we are and he'll change his mind and insert #5. Don't forget to frown intensely.

Nothing another walloping on Sunday won't take care of.
Quote:MOST fans don't expect playoffs or Super Bowl this year, but there is a segment on this board and in the real world who think that the only thing preventing that from happening is Bortles being on the bench. It's about more than being competitive for them.

year.

I haven't met or talked to a single Jaguars fan that believes that...

I haven't either, most competent knowledgeable fans understand the state of the franchise at this time.

And it's likely coming if it's Henne against the colts.

You're not frowning intensely enough! How do you expect Bradley and Caldwell to know you're serious?!?

If the Jaguars get walloped (again) on Sunday, things are going to get really bad. This team needs to play competitive football on Sunday.
