Quote:Well...it's not like a shutdown corner wasn't a need of our's.

What team really doesn't need a player of Ramsey's caliber, though?

The cowboys and chargers got great players, too, so they'll be okay with letting him pass, but when a team is faced with taking an elite talent or filling a need they need to take the elite talent.

Which is why if Allen is on the board for the Jags, they will be taking him.
Man hes good, but he should had 7 INTS pretty easy but I will take the pass break up haha.

Call me crazy here, but wouldn't landing an elite talent AND filling a need be the best possible outcome here?
The OP is exactly right. This is what a top 5 pick should give you. Don't want any more Luke Joeckels or Blake Bortles' that need years of development. Get me a guy that can flat out play from day 1. Plug and play IMPACT player.
I really want to get a Ramsey jersey but I'm scared that the second I do, the Jags will waive Sample and Ramsey will change his jersey number to 23.

Welcome to my life! I Have a Leftwich, Mathis, Cyprien, and Bortles!

Leftwich = BUST

Mathis = solid

Cyprien =decent

Bortles = One more year to prove what he is worth.

I told myself after Bortles I am only going to buy t-shirts with out names and just wear them haha.
Quote:Ramsey is an excellent example of why teams should always select the best available player rather than trying to draft based on needs.

The truth is you always need elite players, it's never worth taking Reggie Williams over Ben Roethlisburger.

Like passing on Leonard Williams because you have Jared Odrick.

Eh slightly different.  It seemed like Fowler was graded fairly close to Williams and Fowler presented a bigger need.  If the two prospects are close in grades, I don't see the problem taking the bigger need.
Quote:There was debate from someone on here (don't recall who) who said Vernon Hargreaves was better.

Ha

Ha

I'm a Gator fan and Ramsey is the overall more well-rounded talent. I still think Hargreaves has better pure ball skills. All things considered, give me Ramsey everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

Boy would I love to add a talent like Allen to this young defense!
Quote:Here in Jaguar land the typical excuse is, "he's just a rookie it's going to take X amount of time for him to become good."  That is not the case.  If a team is picking in the top 5 that player is supposed to make an IMMEDIATE IMPACT on your team.  Ramsey did just that

Ramsey was as advertised if not a little better.  I expected him to have more struggles at CB this year given he was often up against the teams number 1 guy.  His natural talent and athleticism is fun to watch and allows him to compete with the best in the game already.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. You'll have a collectors item.
Quote:One of his best plays most people won't notice starts at :34 seconds in.   Against the bills he gets blocked twice and still makes the tackle behind the LOS.  That is what is called getting after it defense.

Oh I noticed that play immediately because I would NEVER expect a CB to make that type of a play and just get pushed out of the way. Dude fights nonstop and doesn't quit.
I think we can all agree Ramsey is a pro bowl caliber player. Not just the skills at his position but the passion and energy on the field is contagious and should help the players around him be better. We have some promising players here just need the right leadership.

Quote:He is our best player, and it's not really close.

Easily the best cb in jags history..

Call me a pessimist, but I'd like to see what he does next year before I put him ahead of Mathis.  He played at a higher level than anyone we've ever had at that position, but you never know what happens next year.  If I had to make a bet, then I'd bet you're 100% correct.

Sure, but the priority should be on talent, not filling roster spots.

Like I said, draft big Ben, not Reggie Williams.

Right.  That's a great opinion that many people agree with. (I don't think it's that black and white, personally.)

But Caldwell did both with Ramsey to be clear.

Yeah, he did. I think he thought too much about filling a roster spot when he selected Fowler, but Ramsey was a no brainer easy choice to make.
