Quote:Do some research on how this team has faired on picking pass rushers. Between Miller/Marks/Clemons/Branch/Bryant.. we should have enough pass rushing talent on this roster to afford to take Gurley in the middle of the 1st. Don't you realize how much it would open the passing if we had even a halfway decent running game?
The fact we can even get any passing yards is a testament to the passing game at this point. This offense hasn't been legit balanced since 2007. And before that, what 2001? So what 1 year in like 13-14?
Edit: Actually, find me the last time a team picked a CB/S in the 1st round and they ended up being something useful in oh lets say the first 2 years.
Marks was a great find, but I'm meh on the other guys. Clemons is a nice stopgap, but at 32, his best years are likely behind him especially for when this team is likely to compete. Branch is nice, but isn't someone who should be counted on to be the guy. Hopefully he proves me wrong this year. We have nice depth, but no premier guy on the edge you need vs the top QBs. If Bortles is the guy we think he is, the passing game will be fine regardless.
Eric Reid
Patrick Peterson
Stephon Gilmore
Eric Berry
Joe Haden
Earl Thomas
Lots of busts otherwise, but that's the draft.
Looking at that reminded me that Quinn, Watt, and Kerrigan were taken right after we chose Gabbert. Oof.

Yeah most of them are good, but there are an equal amount that were in the first round that the jury is still out on... I personally think Berry / Gilmore are unproven.
Berry has been to 3 pro bowls, but seriously, how often do you hear his name? Rarely.
There are more CB's S's taken in the first round period than RB's in the past 5 years. Most of the RB's that have been taken haven't amounted to much of anything.
I still think Todd Gurley will break that.
If the jaguars wind up with the first pick it will likely be a trade out scenario.
A lot of the picks need to be spent on the line. Center is top priority. Guard. Right tackle.
Linder and joeckel can't really be judged yet.
Unless there is a great value high talent safety or lineman somewhere mixed in there that they didn't expect to be available

OL must be fixed in free agency. Are you willing to put up with another one of these type years of offensive OL play. Not me! The read option/spread is used so much in college football it seems it is hard to get a real judge on the OL. I say get a playmaker DE,FS,RB. Trading down would be the ideal thing to do. Everyone will be wanting Winston who we do not need.

3) Gurley is probably the first RB in awhile that deserves looks at the top 5. Sorry if you don't smell what the NCAA is cooking.
And in 1997, Curtis Enis was the best RB in a while, and was taken in the top 5 of the 1998 draft. Tom Coughlin desperately tried to trade up with Chicago in that draft to take Enis. Chicago didn't bite, and took him. Sadly, or so it seemed to Coughlin at the time, the Jags had to take a guy named Fred Taylor with the 9th pick in that draft.
History shows that nothing is as certain as we think it is.
I'd rather draft a Duke Johnson or Kenyan Drake if they declared than waste a 1st on Gurley.
If the Jags get the #1 pick and Winston or Mariota are as advertised they will be able to command a king's ransom.

The Jags need to trade back and get an offensive lineman, free safety and receiving tight end.

This, we could do with only 1 declaring though that would really up the price, supply and demand and all that.

This. They would take a trade back in a heartbeat at this point. Otherwise I think we may have to go with Gregory if we are in that scenario.
FWIW, I doubt we pick this high. If we suck this bad mid-season, it's going to be Bortles time and I think he gets us out of the top 3/4 picks.
